so if some low life steels your wheels

AND then drops the car down on the brakes, what do you do?

i mean to get the car back up if there is no room for a jack?

my friends WRX got hit last night and the thugs took all his wheels. they even used his wheel lock they found in the center console.

they ripped up his steering column, but couldnt get it started.

im wondering how they got in. no broken windows... are our cars THAT easy to get into??

that blows... and yes cars are that easy! im not saying i've done it but i used to have some buddies (they're straight now and working for the repo dept of banks ) that could rip-off any car in seconds flat. It's an art...

BTW: who's your friend because i know a few WRX owners that don't post

Ummm, if it's on the brakes, can you get under an A arm or something in the front?

How close is the chassis to the ground?

If you jack up one corner, make sure to put something on the opposite corner of the car, under the bumper, so that even if you start putting a bit of weight on the bumper, at least the ground won't gouge the hell out of it....

Maybe some spring compressors reversed on the front coils, to push the suspension down just a hair?

Sucks, man.

Don't tow truck compaines have tools for this type of situation? maybe you should call around and see.

how low to the ground is it?

I know there are jacks that can get pretty low.

Like one of these

http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...roductId=47541

expensive as hell but I am sure there are places out there you can rent one from or borrow.

If you have access to somebody with a winch on their truck, you could pull the truck right up the front right of the car and put in the tow hook. Get close enough to your car and it will be pulling almost straight up. I know that point isn't supposed to take that stress, but you might be able to do it just enough that it compresses the suspension on the back corner so you could get a low-ride jack under the frame rail.

As stupid as it sounds, does he still have stock wheels?
Get about 8 people, and you should be able to lift one corner of the car to get a jack in, then a wheel on, then you will be able to go from there. Do one of the corners, then hopfeully you can get to the rear diff or the crossmember in front (NOT THE OIL PAN) and elevate it enough to shove a block of wood or something under the rails so you can jack at the other 3 corners.....

thats really ****ty, I send my condolences to your buddy....

tell him to buy a survielance (sp?) camera, and a .44 Mag. for future references......

that isht really pisses me off ....I pray to god that I catch someone in the act of breaking into a car...even if its not my car....I would take great pride in beating them into a bloody pulp.....then handcuffing them to the bumper of the car they were breaking into....and call the cops....then sit there and talk isht to their face until the cops get there to handle things.

Wow, that sucks.

Ans yes, the WRX is one of the easiest cars to get into. This is because the front windows do not go into a frame, but just sit on the rubber strip. Any thin stick (slim-jim) can be slid between this strip and the window, then all that is needed is one light push on the power lock button.

Even still with my slim-jim there has only been one car I havent got into in less than 2 minutes.

Also, because the center console panels dont require any tools to un-do....you can disble a wrx alarm in a few seconds...pull the e-brake shroud off by hand and the alarm control is sitting right there looking at you....or the easiest way is to pop the hood and cut the wires to the alarm horn...this can be done in less than three honks of the horn.

As for the car being on the ground, I would opt for the tow truck idea.

That sucks. This happened to my brothers civic but the people to took this wheels were kind enough to leave a big rock under the back of the car so it wasn't completely standing on its brakes.

What ever happened to the times where they used to leave you car on jacks or crates?

hey thanks for all the suggestions, ill call him and let him know.

he called me at work this morning to tell me, so i havent actually seen the car and have never really thought about what to do if the car is sitting on the brakes. so i thought this is the best place to ask.

hes pretty pissed right now so i think hes gonna need some time before he can go out and look at his baby again...

so i imagine his rotors are gonna be severly damaged, right?

the part that sucks is he just moved into the place, and its really not a bad neighborhood..

i can tell you i wouldnt be able to sleep with my car outside there again.

Just so we know, where did this happen? Or did I miss it in the thread?

Sorry for your friend. Insurance should cover everything even getting a tow-truck to somehow get the car somewhere to be fixed.
