honestly Ruger's are the "working man's" gun, meaning very good for first time gun purchase (= cheap) but they seriously suck in my opinion, reason being they are a challenge to target shoot with.

Best bang for the buck...go with Kahr, its basicaly a steel glock....AWESOME guns and my next purchase but then again I love glocks and you either love them or hate them.

The Kahr would be considered a high-end gun, right? ~$500 range

ahhh I would say not really but it would be a medium priced gun, if you wanted a Kimber, that would be a high-end gun and WORTH every penny...

IMO, you should be looking to spend at least $500 on a gun. In most cases, you really do get what you pay for, and $500 is about where the quality starts. The exceptions to that rule are spall caliber guns like a .22 and shotguns where a quality gun like a Remington 870 Express can be had for less than $400.

Why a .357mag revolver as your first gun? And isn't the SP101 only a 5-shot revolver? Should have gotten the S&W 686 if you really wanted a revolver. But yeah, .357mag is alot of gun. Just make sure you practice alot.

The sig is plenty accurate for its size... however, all it does is frigging jam. 5 types of ammo, all considered high velocity too. Bah

How is it jamming? Failure to eject? You might try some regular velocity or even subsonic ammo. Also, what brand(s) have you tried?

The 870 Express is a shotgun, right? You don't even need a license for a shotgun or rifle, am I correct? Do you only need to show a salesperson an ID and that's all, or do they have to log you down as the person purchasing the shotgun or rifle?

you still go through the Department of Justice (DOJ) background check (= 10 days), the only difference between long guns and handguns is: 1- the age limit (= 18+ for long guns and 21+ for handguns) 2- the Handgun Safety Certificate (HSC Card, required to purcahse a handgun, its a 30 question test that you must take in order to buy a handgun....ITS A EASY COMMON SENSE TEST).

Everything else is all the same.

BTW: I'm also a Firearms Safety Instructor and on Sundays work for MONTANA HAWK SHOOTING RANGE

Exactly, also for purchasing a handgun the address listed on your photo ID has to match that of your current residence that you list on the DROS form. For a 'long gun' this is not the case as long as your photo ID is from the state of CA. A good online forum for guns is CalGuns.net. It's cool since it is a CA oriented gun owners site many of the members there are very knowledgable as to what is/is not legal in Cali.

Hey, does anyone go the a shooting range in the fremont/milpitas area, and wouldn't mind me tagging along to shoot some rounds with? I don't currently have a gun, but wouldn't mind splitting the cost to rent a shooting booth/range and the cost of ammunition while we are there.

Some people are cautious about who they go shooting with, but if you wouldn't mind me coming along.......let me know when you would like to go. Or we could get a group thing going, and I could always rent my own gun, and we could do it that way.

I just am not allowed to go shoot at a range by myself, and no one else really wants to go and spend money to shoot in at a range!

I know i-Club has had a gun firing range meet before. I believe that last one was a handgun only meet. But if there was a handgun/rifle meet I'd be down to go.
