Nothing like my car shutting down on my in the middle of the highway, but once while driving from california to Arizona at about 2am in the middle of the desert, there was an aircraft of some type that flew directly toward us, then in a split second shot-out in the opposite direction and started doing some wild air-acrobatic type stuff.

This thing had some really bright lights that were coming from about four different parts of the craft. 'Til this day, all of us in the car still think it was some type of dream...........That we all shared! Now that was weird, and it still freaks me out to be driving through the desert on trips out to AZ.

It could have been some E.T. type of deal. Who knows..........Are you sure it was only 10 seconds that you were stuck in the middle of the highway?

Spooky-Ooky!

That's so wierd that you posted this because I just had the same sort of thing happen to me last Thursday night as I was on my way home from Montana. I was on I-84 westbound, just outside of Portland, Oregon and had my cruise set at about 65-70 mph in my 04 sedan. It was raining like crazy, so I had the wipers on full blast and the rear defrost may have been on too (don't remember for sure). I had the radio on (stock radio) and as for the air/temp controls, the temp was set to dead center, the fan was on 2, and the vent was all the way to the right on full defrost. My cousin reached over and turned the temp all the way up to hot and the car shut down. All the electrical went dark...headlights, dash, radio, etc. Since it was pouring rain and dark as hell, I flipped the **** out (being the girl that I am), and luckily thought quick to hit the hazards, pop it into neutral, and turn the key. It started right up and I kept going, but it was still fkn wierd and scared the hell out of me. I tried to recreate the incident, but so far have had no luck in doing so.

I have talked to a few people about it and some ideas that have come up (and lots that have been shot down) are... 1) a fuse blown...but, the car wouldn't/shouldn't have started back up again if so, or 2) the extreme weather conditions not allowing my blow-off valve to open, or 3) something with a solenoid somewhere, or 4) just a freak electrical mishap. But, hearing your story leads me to believe that idea #4 isn't all that likely. Something had to have caused it. Maybe my story added onto this thread will spark some more thought and get some more ideas as to what the **** is going on with our cars...

ADDING ONTO THIS... Why the hell would my dash and lights have gone dark of my key was still turned to the on position??? Something's up...

Yeah, it's a funky issue. Something causes the electrical system to just shutdown entirely (save everything connected directly to the battery, ie. hazards). I wonder if there is some breaker in the electrical system that we somehow managed to trip? I'll go through the book I downloaded for my car (<3 Russian sites), see if I can't find something helpful.

My car did the same thing before while I was sitting in a drive thru line at In n Out. I had the stereo on, not all the way up or anything, suddenly the car died completely. Weird. Maybe Subarus just has crappy electrical systems.

HAHA, I use to drive through the Arizona Desert ALL the time at around 2am driving to Saramento when I lived in Arizona... Umm, there definately isn't a thing for cars cruising at aroudn the 100+ range, because i did it constantly in my GTI Infact the only time I wasn't around those speeds at the time of night I cruised through there was when I went through LA!! I cut an 11 1/2 hour trip down to about 9(maybe even less ) counting pit stops/gas stops! I also drove to Sac through the middle of the night because there is less traffic and coppers!! I never once experience anything go through the desert all 8-10 times i did that trip(there and back so I guess 16 to 20 times through the desert).
