Hammy is an awesome road! I've lived very close to iT my entire life and have biked up/down, long boarded and driven it. I like it a lot and people should make the trip. But stay off when it's cold, because a mistake can be very costly.... Last time I drove up to the observatory a biker went to fast for a turn and it didn't look pretty

I was planning on driving up and over the mountain on Saturday to San Jose. Hope it's drivable by then.... Probably not though.

I've driven it thousands of times. Very fun road but not for the novice and not when it is cold enough for black ice or even when it is relatively wet. The back side of the first ridge before you get to Grant Ranch gets very little sun and is probably the most dangerous part because it is steep and can be wet or icy even in the middle of the day on a sunny day this time of year. I grew up right at the base near the entrance to Alum Rock park.

It is supposed to get another dusting today, so chances are good it will remain closed.

My mom's idiot coworker drove up Mt Hamilton for the first time and decided to get out and take a picture. Didn't put his car in park. A gust of wind came and pushed the car off the cliff. Cost him like $2000 to have it towed out of the canyon, obviously totalled.

when was this because that's friggin funny! That's like one of those videos where you see cars skidding down roads just pushing all the other cars around like ping pong *****... usually in some city related to philly or ny.

Pretty recently. It was a new car cause he totalled his other one. One of those people. But yea, he had no idea how windy the road was or even any idea that something like that could happen. He seemed to think if he was in the car he would have went over with it. Thinking the wind just picked it up and dropped it off the cliff. It was a Cobalt.
