Snowboard helmet help

I'm looking for a good helmet for snowboarding. Mostly All mountain style riding. I was wanting the Bad Liutenant from Giro, but they only make them up to a Large and I need an XL for my giant melon.

I started looking at the Burton R.E.D helmets. Has anybody heard any good or bad things about them?

I have a Giro, but I have heard good things about the R.E.D.s...the thing is with a helmet by FAR the most important thing is how it fits. If it feels like crap on your head, it's gonna suck...if it fits well (and has passed all the tests they have to pass, which I'm pretty sure they all do...), then it'll work. Everything else is just bells and whistles in my opinion.

I was Sport Chalet (where Megan bought her clothes when we went up with the girls and almost died lol) and was checking out what they had for helmets. With the large it presses in on my forehead and back of my head. That's why I figured XL, which fit better. I see that one of the Burton helmets is claimed to be one of the lightest helmets out there. Was just trying to figure on what's better.

Too many close calls last season bro.

yeah following jordon and I can be hazardous to your health..haaaaa.

the burton helmet is very light and very durable...it's what I picked up for jordon. He road with it last year. Cheaper and well made. I'd get one that is slightly too large and add padding before getting one that's too small.

I went with an XXL giro helmet an added padding because of the shape of my head the pressure on the back of my scull with a smaller helmet bugged me. I'll need to add soem padding as my old stuff is broke down and the helmet is a bit loose.

Loose helmets are nooooo goooood. That's why I laugh when I see these little punk groms wearing their helmets with no straps or all too big and loose so they can look cool....broken neck anyone??? idiots.

Make sure it fits.

The burton is a safe bet and way cheaper that the giro. My helmet was about $150.

Jordon wears an XL burton helmet...I think it's xl..maybe check his out. but personally I'd say it's a safe bet bro....long as its not way way too wiggly.

Hahahaha yea, you 2 are nuts.

When I tried it on, it had just a little bit of wiggle room. But felt good. I'm gonna try and get to an REI or Any Mountain and see what they have that I can try on. I figure as long as I can't spin the helmet on my head it should be good.

Started looking online at different models and there are 2 giro models and 3 pro-tec models I wanna take a look at and try on. Gonna have my parents get me one for Christmas. lol

I bought a Giro G10 last year. I like it quite a bit. I had never worn a helmet before last year. It is really light. I has a pretty low profile too. I didn't want to look like the mushroom guy from Super Mario 2. Tough to say where to get it now. I bought it at Tri-city. Try them on, all of them. The Pro-tech are wicked small. They all fit different.

hahahaha yea I'm looking for low profile for the same reason. I already got a big melon, I don't need some massive helmet adding to it.

I might have to take a trip to Sierra Ski and Snowboard. Late last season all they had were giro's left.

I'll keep that in might about the Pro-Tec, thanks Jeff.

Try them on. Go to a store and try on as many as possible. Recommendations are only good if the helmet fits your head and it's comfortable that you can wear it all day. I have a Giro S4, cheap comfy and gets the job done.

I tried on the Smith Holt the other day and it felt pretty nice on my dome, but i think what some of these other guys said- try on as many as you can because everyone fits differently into different helmets

fit is key. different manufacturers have slightly different molds. i tried a giro but it caused pain at certain pressure points after 30minutes. i have a protec helmet and am very happy with it.

make sure you wear the helmet properly for about 30 minutes. pressure points generally start up by that time. if there's no pain, buy it.
