Smog question or a helpful recommendation
So I've got a 3076R with a catless pipe, spent all morning calling around shops to see how it would out.
Here are some results:
1. [get a hook up buddy] - i'd thank you with a finders fee if you could PM me with this.
2. [get a e85 tune] - looking into this but will fail visuals
3. [go back to stock] $5000 parts rough estimate and more for labor
anyone else got any ideas? Looked via the search, and various topics of rotated vs not but not much on going back to stock
i know i'd need a stock oem two piece down pipe, a TMIC, a new turbo, cross over pipes, uppipe, possible new exhaust, various lines and misc parts, and of course a stock air flow box.

Update: Got the issue resolved, was very thankful to I-club and its members for offers of help. If someone else is looking for an assist PM me, just want to pass it forward.
During the process, learned a lot about the set up and my plans next are to go back to stock location after hunting down some parts OR take up residence in Arizona.

Let me guess...on the 5k parts and more for labor estimate, you called some local shops (including LIC)? Noah was preaching the truth...

Ah the gotta "Pay to Play" game...
So here is the thing....
As of 1/1/2013 California "officially" started "AB 2289" which should free you of your worries as it means you no longer need to do the tail pipe test for cars years 2000+ !
You still have to pass visual but provided some shops don't really get to crazy with visual test, in short just ensuring you basically have cats and not worried about BOV/BPV, upgraded turbos and so on so forth... You would be fine! (I use the word some shops loosely but this is the truth, some only care about the tailpipe test as that is what they are graded on to my understanding.)
However, finding a smog shop setup with this new method is hard as a lot of them are still running on the standardized tests for reason of not being upgraded or for a profit! The new tests are supposedly cheaper for the customer! As a matter of fact I had this discussion with a smog tech a few months back and he pretty much was in agreement (he said he would loose a bit with the new tests and was not yet setup for them but also mentioned modded cars would pass with ease as they just need to clear ODB2 Scanning and basic visual tests.)
Also the new testing means that the smog shop is constantly rated, which I do think is the case now, but puts even harsher punishments on those who pass higher emission cars or cars that fail. (or so that is my understanding).
AB 2289 - Makes changes to the following smog inspection procedures and guidelines:
A. Authorize the use of On Board Diagnostic II testing to expedite the process.
B. Vehicles known to release large amounts of pollution must test at stations with the highest performance ratings.
C. Stricter fines structure for improper inspections.
D. Permit the state to contract with the private sector to manage franchise-like networks of independently owned Smog Check stations.
E. Encourage community colleges and other training institutions to develop technician-training programs.

So I guess if you could find a shop that is up and running with OBD2 Scanning only, you have a good chance of passing!

I don't know of a single shop running the new machines. On top of that you're looking for one that will overlook visual? lol good luck.
OP look up how to get a dealer license and apply for one. Slap on dealer plates on your ride and have fun.

From talking to my smog guy, they'll still be doing the visual portion. Not just for modified cars, but for poor repairs. He said that CARB could be bringing cars into shops to test the techs and shops, and make sure the work is done correctly (talking a vacuum line being out of place or a bolt plugging a vacuum port, small stuff).
The tech said as long as everything is in the stock location (turbo, vacuum lines, fuel lines), and the parts look stock(ish) (no adjustable FPR etc), that he would have no problem passing the car. That he looks at the underhood stickers to make sure everything is where it should be.
