Smog Question
Hello folks, just had a question about the infamous smog issues that we come across when it's time to go ahead and smog the suby..
I was just wondering , if you have a full catless set up, along with a upgraded turbo, injectors, fuel pump, short ram intake, and supporting mods, and have to smog the car, will it pass smog with just the stock up/dp/exhaust ? Or is that not possible since the other things are upgraded?
It would be alot of work to put EVERYTHING back to stock just to smog the car.. I think my smog is due next december, but just wanted to make sure.. Thanks folks..

This question is way out of my ballpark, I'll admit that, but the one issue I can for see has to do with your tune. It seems to me like (unless you get a custom tune for the turbo w.o exhaust) you're either going to be running a tune such that you wont pass, or you will be running a tune that is dangerous for your car.
Since we're talking about passing visual, can anyone tell me what the likely hood is that this will pass visual? My main concern is the blue y-pipe kit, it's pretty tucked away though. Other than that I have the turbo inlet and MAF hose. I can take off the cobb heatshield and put the stock battery in too to make it look more plain.

Obviously it's 10000x times more plain than the average WRX on the road, but I just don't know if the average smog guys tend to be sticklers or what.

but otherwise im guessing I'd have to put all back to stock when it comes to smog? (including reflash back to stock map using accessport)2. This is when I wish I lived in Florida or some middle-of-nowhere boonies, I dont see how they're so **** about car smogs when those big 18 wheelers pump out so much dark smoke out of their exhaust pipes up to the sky, its full of ISHHHH

smog is a crapshoot man.
y pipe won't fail you unless you boinkled the smog tech's sister or something.
Best bet is to get your car to a reputable shop to make sure you'll be passable sniffer wise, some smog stations will be lenient visually if the numbers and readiness monitors are good.

The key is to keep the engine bay looking as close to stock. Thus avoid adding anything that is shiny or bright colored.
When I ordered an intercooler hose kit, I specifically asked for black. Upon installation, I removed the logos.
Good luck.
Current plan: put corrugated MAF hose back on, put a hose clamp over the gimmick logo on the inlet, replace y pipe kit with black (sale pending with other i clubber), remove cobb heatshield, replace braille battery with kirkland one, and obviously go back to stock TBE.
