I just got smogged last weekend. I did put on my stock downpipe (I also am catless for the uppipe). I passed. No real visual inspections (under the car, they looked under the hood but for smoke, etc).

Make sure if you have a CEL, clear those.

I'm going back to stock at this very moment and was looking at the up-pipe, and thinking back to this thread....debating tackling that pipe...I'm gonna leave it and do a pre-smog, that way if it doesn't pass it doesn't count against me, but if it does pass I'll say "cool, smog it"

As long as you have your stock downpipe and no other problems you will pass the sniffer test. As far as the visual goes, I think most tech are not going to know what an aftermarket up-pipe looks like. I just passed smog in late January with a cat-less up-pipe. The tech even pointed out my blue intercooler y-pipe and asked me if I changed those.

I have an Ed tuned 2.5 short block with a vf34 and passed with just the stock turbo back. JDM top mount and helix catless up pipe. I went to Walnut Creek Ford to smog it. they don't charge any more than a test only and don't have a clue what the are looking for. The guy put it on the dyno then the writer said "you know thats all wheel drive, right?"

HC ave was 12 - 17 and no CO. Max for hydro carbons is 100 - 130.

Don't waste money on a pre smog is what i'm getting at

I'll just tell him the flex part of the up-pipe is the cat

I'd rather spend the extra $20, if you don't pass then you get to fix it and do it annually

AWD cars are exempt from the dyno since they are 2wd dynos.

Did you have to pay the technician under the table?
I have a catted helix and borla hush tuned to stage 2, just wondering if I can pass with that setup...
