Smog problems with 00 RS
has anyone smogged a 2000 RS with the new equipement they have now? the two places that i went to is having problems reading the OBD2. does anyone else have this problem? has anyone smogged it successfully? btw, i was able to have the OBD2 scanned with a generic scanner.

paul...how's it going man? and same to eric (hope i remember daios' name right). ah, haven't been here for so long.
anyways, it's not a CEL or anything. it's just that the smog computer wouldn't communicate or was unable to communicate with the car's OBD2. generic OBD2 scanners reads the car's OBD2 without any problems. so, i'm very puzzle. since Eric has a 4EAT, the ECU might be a little different than 5MT that can be why he didn't have any problems.

i own a 01 rs and 3 months ago i had my car smog tested with no problems. Sounds like there is a communication problem (connector, cable, computer) and you should talk to a suby dealer about the obd2 problem. If the dealer is a good one they should do it for free.

were they using the new equipment when you smogged 3 months ago?
i spoke with someone at carlsen, and they never heard of this problem. gonna call bruce on monday or tues. it's not really problem with the OBD2, cause other scanners can read it. only the smog ones can't.

It goes good. I sold the RST and got a STi. I'd go to another smog shop and give it another try. I hop those guys didn't charge you. good luck...

what? you sold the RST? damn, but you put so much work into the RST.
i tried 2 different places, and they both have the same problem. going to a 3rd tomorrow, and probably a 4th on monday if **** doesn't work tomorrow again. nope, no one charged me yet.

holy ****, not only did you remember my name, but you spelled it right too.
hahaha, carlsen said they won't be able to fix it under warranty, unless it's powertrain. i don't think it can be powertrain. they are gonna charge me $115 just to look at it. i might call bruce.

I do not think that they are charge you for emissions releated problems for 100k miles. I know that I read that once, but cannot find it in the current Vehicle Code. If I was you, I would open your hand book and look over the warranty on emissions equipment.
