Smog Check Puzzle
My STI has a COBB turbo-back,first-generation AccessPORT,and legal CAI. It passes visual. The AccessPORT is supposed to disable the monitor that detects the P0420 cat-inefficiency code and set the CEL. At Smog Check (plug-in,no tailpipe test),all monitors showed Ready and it passed. Can anyone explain.
It's QQ thankyouverymuch

Just because the monitor is disabled doesn't mean that it won't show as ready.
That downpipe should have failed visual.

I'm not keen on how the tuning actually works. I wouldn't think that the monitor is completely disabled. I bet that the threshold for triggering a CEL was changed. So the monitor is still there do what it's supposed to. But any value it reports won't trigger an alarm.
But like I said, an aftermarket downpipe should not have passed.
The smog tech can be crappy with the visual portion. But they can't really fight the OBDII check.
