Um.... for these things to build anything with real steal girders, they will suck up a LOT of power. In addition, they require the joints be perfect, square, and equipped with MAGNETIC JOINTS.

This is not even close to replacing construction. Maybe eventually, but not this iteration.

I could see the future applications such as remote site building, but this is just the ground floor for such a project.

Magnets obviously wouldn't be the method that the girders would bee attached, but it could be a helpful alignment tool (they could set up an electro magnet alignment system and then figure out a way to join them), but a ground based platform would require a lot less power and be a lot more realistic for general purpose.

The amount of power a helicopter requires to hover is enormous without a load. Add a huge load and multiple engines to that, and the need for precision work, and any saving from eliminating jobs will quickly be sucked down by the engines.

Plus you will need a huge workforce to maintain and fuel these things.

The scary part is the quadrotors are unmanned and autonomous. So these guys most likely had a beacon of sorts in one of the base plastic girders, another at the supply area and just set the coordinates, told the computer to build whatever structure and the computer did the rest. That they could sort through the building materials in order, hover with precision in the same "buffer" area, then use yaw pitching to see if the beam was actually attached or not is absolutely insane.

And I think it's a question of "when" not "if" these guys will replace heavy duty physical labor.
