So my wife is almost done paying off her truck. She asks me last night if I want to sell my car and get a Turbo Forrester and she will pay off the difference...
Arguments for:
We could use the extra cargo room.
I do kinda want one.
I like the stealth factor.
Agruments against:
It would be nice to finally have no car payments.
I'm not sure I could give up the bugeye.

from what i remember you were getting screwed at work, right? i think it's safest for you not to have a car payment until things get better. besides your car's still relatively new (granted the mileage on it must be insane with your new commute) there really isn't a need to buy a new car.
just my opinion...

Well, she bought the Blazer used and now it has close to 75,000 miles on it. When it goes, and it will go, all we will have is whatever I have.
Right now, if we go anywhere, we have to take her car because it's near impossible to load me, her, the baby, and the dog into the WRX...
I keep telling myself I should have gotten that white wagon instead of the WRB sedan...

Run the blazer into the ground and then you can pick up another used truck or think about buying another car then. I guess it would be nice to have more room, but would it justify spending that much more a month? You can use that money saved to buy something later. I dunno. It's up to you. Good luck.

Forester XT all the way!!
Pros: lower insurance, stealth factor, lots of usable cargo room, 8 acre moonroof (if you like that sort of thing), tons of tappable performance potential...
Throw on some STi struts and springs, and it will handle very similar to a WRX.
Cons: gas mileage really stinks (expect it to be similar to your Blazer's mpg).
I absolutely love my XT and will probably keep it till it falls apart on me.

I would vote for the forester XT, Baja T, Legacy GT, Outback XT. They all get the stealth factor, lots more room to fit the kid and pet, which it sounds like you need. The new legacies are suposed to get better gas milage and more power than the FXT and BT. I absolutely love my Baja T. I have just as much fun in it as all the WRX owners. I also love haveing the extra room and the 2.5 displacement rules. I get about 21mpg w/out mods or tuning. I am hopeing to get it tuned with a ECU soon so I can get that milage up a little more. since i drive it a lot (20000 since febuary).

If you trade.
You will get raped in the trade in.
If you try to sell privatelly and you have mods you will get raped or no one would buy it.
You will continue having car payments for 4-5 more year most likely higher than what you have now.
If you do not.
You have 2 cars no payments.
Drive the Chevy to the ground when it dies get a Forester or a Legacy GT wagon.
Then you have one car payment. Otherwise you may end up with two car payments ( the Chevy dies and you have the Forester).
Note: as a parent myslef as the baby grows older you will start to fit in a normal size car and you do not need to have a wagon/SUV etc..
Fun factor.
The 2.5l torque is a big benefit. The new Legacy GT is much better inside than the Forester or the STi. I test drove a Forester XT (05) and a Legacy GT wagon and the Legacy was much nicer inside. Both would have been my wife's car so she wanted them automatics (I know, I know and she even knows how to drive a stick
). They both felt quite slower than my 05 STi. But they had nice torque low. I think with a reflash and some mild mods would be kick butt.
good luck whatever you decide.
Regards
Nick
