I'm with the guys above ^, I'd get an evo. You've tried suby, s2000, and your friend has a miata so I'd say go evo. My friend auto x his all the time and he loves it.

do you like the foresters? my friend has an 04 xt and that thing is quick for a big car. its perfect for hauling stuff around, and its awesome for rallyx as well. not so much for autox, we tried that once and didnt do so well, but if you lower it a bit it would be perfect, that is if you like them
wrx wagons are sweet as well, if you really are thinking about i say go for it. they are fast and handle way, and it wouldnt take much to get it really nice

Get an MR-2 .
But if you really want an upgrade over a Miata, get a Lotus Elise or Exige. U will never go back
