Should I fix my 2002 WRX?
I ruined my 2002 WRX at the salt flats in Utah a couple weeks ago. The car must've been low on oil before I decided to go flat out through all my gears to over 130+ mph. Oil levels were low after I decided to do this. The engine developed a subtle "knocking" sound that gets very apparent after 3000 rpm. I'm an idiot and should never have done this. I was really killing myself that night

I finally took the car to Art's Automotive in Berkeley yesterday and I basically need a new engine. It looks like a brand new engine install is going to cost me between $6-7k... which is what the car is worth entirely with a working engine. The car is well maintained and I was hoping to use it as a commute car in the south bay (I hate traffic here). I spent over $2k to get everything functional fixed in the car a couple years ago along with the 105k service (new timing belt and water pump). The tires are also pretty new with less than 5k miles.
I just picked up a new BRZ yesterday so I don't "need" this WRX. This car just has a huge amount of sentimental value since it was my first car. What do you guys think I should do? I don't have the time or knowledge to fix up this car myself. My dad is thinking of giving this car to his coworker (someone who can fix this car). Is it time to let go?

Damn, I think you guys are right. I think I'll just give the car to my dad's coworker then. I don't think I can get much for it and definitely don't want to deal with the hassle.

You will be surprised! Bad engine wrx are going for ~$3K+! That's $3K you can put in your BRZ.

If you can find a used engine and are willing to put in work I'd be down to help you out. Had the same problem in my 2.5rs and did the labor myself with some friends with a newer engine. It's good experience if you're down haha If not, would I be able to take it off your hands? Let me know!
