French cops are no joke.... they carry full-auto all of the time.

That said, I think the incident was mostly due to tunnel vision.
The cops were probably sited in and just tracked him through their sites as he approached.
Who expects the shooter to run AT the line of cops.

Does Sonoma County compete in that event? I remember my dad talking about them competing in some event of that sort.

I have the master timelines for the last couple years. I see Marin sheriffs on the list, don't see sonoma. *edit* Sonoma County Fire is on the list. they won 1st for Maritime scenarios http://www.urbanshield.org/index.php...erformers-2014

we are getting more and more international teams each year. we've had brazil BOP, brazil CORE, singapore police STAR, Korea Coast Guard Sea Special Attack Team, state of israel, kingdom of jordan, kingdom of bahrain, french national raid. plus teams from all over the US (texas, dallas, st. paul, philadelphia, boston, etc)

it's getting bigger and bigger every year. more scenarios, more teams http://www.urbanshield.org/

i'm still on the SAR team. I used to work the medical stations years ago, but now for urban shield i do a lot of the big plotter printing, as well as creating the BIG maps of the whole bay area showing all the scenarios. if you are ever at OES (offices of emergency services) in dublin, going back towards the EOC, you'll see my big maps up on the wall. it's one of the first things all the dignitaries and higher ups see when they go in the door. it helps give them a broader sense of the scale of the event
most people stop and take photos of my maps on their cell phones or tablets, which is rewarding to me because people are enjoying something that took me days and days to create! last year i actually collected business cards from people so I could email them a digital copies of the maps.
and I got an amazing Commendation letter last year for it!

you can also sign up to be a participant in urban shield! Norm (forgot his screen name here) signs up to do it. you can either be an active shooter using the airsoft guns, or a victim of some sorts (hostage, injured, etc). I think the sign ups for that is around July. Urban Shield 2014 - Volunteers

if you are into that sorta thing, it's super fun to role play for a scenario! plus the scenarios are based off real events that have happened around the world.

i'm in this video for like half a second at 5:04 lol

That actually sounds really cool. I just might have to sign up!

That said...does this mean all these bad **** tactical teams are simply going up against mass quantity of untrained civilian sheep? How about pitting Oakland SWAT against Israeli MOSSAD or Russian Spetsnaz?

I've done some scenarios as a medic and for fire. Its fun. The fire urban shield scenarios aren't as cool though. My brother is a swat team leader so he does the le stuff every year.

Interesting. I asked because my dad used to be on SWAT at SCSD and they competed in an event of this sort, but that was many years ago. Apparently they used to compete against teams worldwide, but I don't know **** about that type of stuff! Thanks for the info.

Rumors are, this guy was the pointman in the assault element during the supermarket raid.
