Shipping a tranny, any advice? Which service to use, etc.

Just as the title says. Anyone ship one out from the Bay Area, how much did it cost and which company gives the best rates for these things? What needs to be prepped up before shipping it out?

Thanks,

i believe you have to strap it down to a pallet and make sure no fluid is in the transmission or at least close to no fluid.

Believe it or not, Grayhound has a freight service that's really cheap. It will travel in the stow compartment under a bus.

I've used Greyhound to ship a CF hood before! They'll do it!

I just happen to have the perfect crate for shipping a transmission. Built by Subaru, it contained a transmission, rear differential and TCU.

Double wow! Paul you gonna let Mike talk smack about tranny's like that?

Op maybe you can try asking one of the shops in our area if they have any pallets that they don't need anymore from previous tranny deliveries (I just had too), I'm sure that will help tremendously and also which shipping carriers they use.

well it depends on if its an MF or FM tranny. MF will weigh more and increase the shipping rate.

My advise would be to hit them with a pipe or something to knock them unconscious then have a plan for long term sedation. At that point you just fold them up and put em in a big moving box (TV box maybe?) and make sure it has propper postage.

good luck acquiring your new tranny, but next time check out you local dive bar. you can usually find what you are looking for there.
