Secret Service Question
Hey all!
I have an interview with the Secret Service office in SJ for a student internship position. I'm actually quite nervous about it because it's with...THE USSS!!! LOL!
Anyways, my question to you all is, what kinds of questions should I expect for this position? Should I expect basic interview questions like "What are your strengths/weaknesses?" "Why do you want this position?", etc. Or should I expect more detailed questions like "What is the mission of the USSS?" "Who is the director of the USSS and tell me about him?" etc.
I want to know what to expect so I can prepare myself as much as possible. I know I'll be nervous as ****, but I'll do my best.
So0o0o...any help from anyone who's had experience with this or knows someone who's done or is doing this position is greatly appreciated!
Thanks everyone!!

Honestly... just assume they already know everything.
They don't care what your answers are. They just want to see how you operate under pressure. So relax. Stay calm. And NEVER LIE. They ask you if at any time in your life your jerked off wonder what being with a man was like... just say yes.
LOL!
Seriously though. No lies. Not even white tiny ones.

I guess the questions differ from field office to field office and interviewer as well.
I'm not so much worried about lying because everything on my application (50+ pages...LOL. Longest packet I've ever filled out) is all true (to the best of my knowledge) so I have nothing to hide.

That's the best way to do it. Because one little inconsistency or hole to challenge your integrity and you're done. They don't mess around.
I have a cousin that did it. You'd look at the dude and be like... that dork is SS? My dad's like... yeah. He's packing right now. Next day the dude was gone. He would get these calls and be gone. Couldn't even tell his wife he was leaving. I think he was working for the NSA for a minute too. I'm not sure what he's doing now.
Cool career choice man. Good luck with it!

My take on this, and anything you do in life really...
Go in knowing why you want the job, what your goals are in life and why you think this is the path to reach them.
Always be honest, and if you really do want the job you'll have researched exactly what it entails, and everything you possibly could about the organization you want to work for.
Knowing the Deputy Director's name, NOT IMPORTANT.
Knowing that he created x program, which resulted in these major changes, and has furthered the organization, and potentially even the industry, IMPORTANT.
If you want to do it, are honest, and are a good fit, there's no reason you won't get the job. Admit what you don't know and that you're willing to learn.
Top 3 traits I look for in interviews: honesty, passion, team mindedness
My $0.02

exactly. Something I learned early on in life and it was a great lesson. Research who you're interviewing with. Location. History. Staff. Recent news. Products. Etc... whatever applies. Know the company. More than likely they will ask and someone that says.... uhhh... I'm not sure. Or I don't know. NEXT!

So0o...my background investigation for the student internship position should be wrapping up sometime next week.
Does anyone know what's the next step in the process? Polygraph, another interview? Although this is just a student internship position, I don't think there will be a polygraph because there's no security clearance for this position, or so their website says.
Just curious because I'll have to submit some forms to my school in the next week or so and I'm not sure how much longer this process will take

They are going to know you leak
Haha, that did make me laugh.
In reality you haven't been hired yet, and can talk about it all you want until you have to sign a non-disclosure agreement, or something similar. Basically stating that anything you do or see at work remains at work, and if it doesn't you can be fired, fined, jailed, etc. If you find yourself tempted to share "secrets" in any way right after you've been hired, I recommend discussing with coworkers also under the same NDA policy as it relieves the "gotta tell someone" urge. You get over this pretty quickly though, and eventually come to despise it as you realize that someone owns all your work and unless it becomes publicly released remains "classified" as it were, never to see the light of day (publicly at least). (This also depends on what you do, if you're not actually creating anything that last one likely doesn't apply)
If you want to know how long the process will take, ask them directly. Nobody knows better than they do. This is life, not grade school, ask questions!!!

Well, it's not like any of these questions I am asking are a matter of national security. They are...questions. As for the urge to "leak" information, I've never had the inclination to do such things and I never will, especially if it pertains to something like this...that's a no brainer.
Just curious because class starts in a couple days and my major department has some requirements about the internship class starting the first week.
But, thanks anyways!
