You should be fine in HI as long as you are not moving piles of wet rubbish or mucking around in piles of dead leaves and stuff. I have found them mostly cleaning my yard in Hilo, working construction back in the day. I did see a couple in dry places but that was rare. Scariest things I have ever seen.

Cane spiders, now there is no reason to kill one of them. They and a lot of other creatures are great helpers and keep other pests under controll naturally. They look scary, but they are harmless and more scared of you than you are of them. Centipedes have their own category. They are aggressive killers of everything.
