I don't know what's up with that pic. The only time I have seen someone handle one was this guy who thought he was badass back in school. He caught one and cut off the fangs, and let it walk on his bare chest. The venom leaked out and left welts all over him.

You should be fine in HI as long as you are not moving piles of wet rubbish or mucking around in piles of dead leaves and stuff. I have found them mostly cleaning my yard in Hilo, working construction back in the day. I did see a couple in dry places but that was rare. Scariest things I have ever seen.

Do some searches on youtube for 'giant centipede' - theres some vids of a big one eating a mouse. It's one of the most vile and disgusting things I have seen.

Just cos you don't like them doesn't mean you can torture another living creature. thats not nice.

I concur, cruelty to people is fine, just leave the animals out of it. I'm killing them slowly with a catless set-up...no hippies here.

Awwwwwwww poor widdle killing machine. Haha.. You are right to an extent, but your words show you have no experience with these creatures. If you grew up around these things you know that you kill them when you see them. I wouldn't go hunting for one, but if I see one that may harm me, my girl, my friends or my pets and it's on my property, it's dead. If that makes me a 'bad person' then so be it.

Cane spiders, now there is no reason to kill one of them. They and a lot of other creatures are great helpers and keep other pests under controll naturally. They look scary, but they are harmless and more scared of you than you are of them. Centipedes have their own category. They are aggressive killers of everything.
