san jose to LA, gas mileage ?
hey guys i havent really taken my wrx on a long haul yet other then nevada and i had fun in the twisties so i really didnt get a chance to see how far i can get on one tank of gas, I might be driving from san jose to LA soon and was wondering if any of you who have fairly stock cars have made it to LA on one tank?
I drive a 05 wagon, minimal mods, sti TMIC, catless up pipe, cobb cat back, sti springs and some 18x 7.5 volks with 235's
the reason i ask is because im on a super tight budget right now so just trying to calculate all expenses.
thanks guys sorry if this seems like a super noob topic.

depending when you are leaving from and where you are going you might be able to make it on a tank there, but it's gonna be real close haha....DT SJ to DT LA is around 340 miles i think. I think the most i've gotten out of my stock bugeye on one tank is around 320 or so all highway miles.

It's a perfect place to stop. Get gas. Take a leak. Get some snacks.
Soon as you get over the grapevine you'll be sitting in traffic for quite a while so it's better to have a full tank than a near empty one.
I usually stop there on the way down and on the way up I'll stop somewhere around paso.

That's exactly what I do.

I made that drive often when I was stationed down in SD with my STI, I run the Cobb TBE and Stage 2 w/ AP. Taking what I drove off my trip odometer and what i filled up at the midway point I made about 22.5mi/gal. Cruise controlled it most of the way at 75 and let it go in neutral coming down the grapevine on the I5.
But from my experience, yes, you can make it on one tank. I filled up in Dublin, CA and got to around 1/8 tank right around LA.

also I always took the I5, and leave at like 9pm at night so traffic is pretty legit. Last trip I made was about a month and a half ago and there was about 20mi of one lane open highway due to road work, but the slow down was very minimal. I think they are still doing some work on the I5.

i drive down there quite a lot.. stage 2 (conservative tune)+full turbo back, lightweight pulley, stock rims and tires. best milage i got was 28.7mpg cruise control at 70. the pulley really helped (26.5 mpg without pulley). in theory, i should get about 420 with full tank of gas, enough to get to LA from ELk Grove, but like mentioned before, Grapevine will kill the gas. Furthest i ever went was ELk Grove to middle of the Grapevine where Shell is at. i think lighter wheels and gas saving tires will help..
in my experience, at stage 2 you will prolly save more gas..
