Salary negotiation
So i've got a job interview tomorrow and I'm a bit rusty at the whole process. My last job interview was over 2 years ago. I'm not nervous, just anxious. On top of that, i have to catch a flight tomorrow am to get to the interview. I hope the rain does not delay my flight!
So I'm actually interviewing for 2 positions in 1 company. The first is a 'entry level' position. I have more than entry level experience, but from the job description it sounds like it's what i've done in the past. I believe it pays 5k less than what i am looking for, but i'd like to keep options open as there aren't too many right now. The other position is a bit more in my range, but they called me for the 'entry level' position.
Do you think i can negotiate up to my range = 5-6k more than the stated salary? I won't be needing medical benefits as my wife's company provides that for us. Tips, pointers, advice for salary negotiation?

To be honest; doesn't seem to be the best market to be asking for more $$ walking in the door. Gotta prove you're worth it the last time I checked. You could bring up the not needing benefits part & maybe they can reallocate how they've budgeted for your position...but not until you see an offer letter.

I'm sure it still stands that you don't talk salary until they've demonstrated strong interest and are extending an offer.
Before that, you need to give them a vague range so they get an idea of what you're going for.
If the salary they are offering is 5k less than what you want, give them a 5-10k range starting from what they are offering and goes past what you are hoping for. That tells them that you would like more but still are interested in the job at the price they are offering and does not commit you to anything.
If they like you, but can't budge on price, then they will still extend the offer to you at the lower offer. If they can swing the 5k, and they like you enough, they'll do it.
Good luck.
