You're right. That was not best thing to say, I just felt a lot of anger reading the caption and expressed an unsound and ignorant opinion. It was stupid, and I apologize. I honestly don't know why I posted this thread; I just saw it earlier in the day and my mind kept on going back to it and for some damn reason felt compelled to post up. The depth of its depressing effects hasn't truly sunken in until the last 3 times I looked at it. I feel like **** and again I apologize for making others feel likewise.

so true Jer bear... he probably had 1000 pictures on that trip and nobody can help in that many situations. I shouldn't jump to conclusions knowing i will take some pretty depressing shots myself when I make that trek.
I just got fired up when I read that the guy got a prize for pushing a button instead of doing something about it.
I'm sure he did his humanitarian duties while he was there, may he rest in peace.

Those China comics... I very rarely cry; I haven't even cried at the funerals of friends and relatives, but those comics got me teary-eyed.
Those comics were not depressing at all. They were uplifting and inspirational. They gave me hope for China, the Chinese people, and humanity in general. News about despicable acts and people in China come rushing out into the news everyday, but those comics, which I assume are non-fictional, really gave me hope for the Chinese people and for humanity as a whole that in times of dire crisis, we can still practice acts of self-sacrifice to save our fellow man up to and including the loss of one's own life to save another. It makes me hate myself for the apathy and animosity that I often find myself filled with these days; it makes me wonder whether, in times of need, I could do the same as those Chinese soldiers and citizens; it makes me want to treat my fellow human beings with more kindness and empathy.
Dammit, I'm crying outright now... those are real acts of heroism and resilience. It makes me proud to be ethnic Chinese, a rare occurrence in this day and age.
For everyone talking **** in this thread, have you no soul?
EDIT: fizay, could you provide me with the URL of the site where you found the comics please? Thanks.

Went back to china this previous summer for a Sichuan delegation to help the earthquake victims. Barely anything is fixed. The roads are cracked, the buildings are left demolished, and dinky little schools are setup up for temporary measure. Their bathroom was a wall, one side for the girls, and one side for the boys.
I never went to China but did drive 880 into the city of san francisco. I say we worry about us. We have enough problems that should keep us busy for next 50 years.

bummer
i agree this stuff is insanely sad. i have a child, and to think of ANY of this happening to him makes me well up. what goes on around the world is, well, insane.
as a retired paramedic whos worked in some pretty crappy towns, i agree we need to focus on our OWN issues first. for example;
2 years ago or so, a small boy in Richmond Ca was found dead in a closet of a known schizo. She had kept her son in the closet for most of his life. neighbors knew, the school knew, CPS knew, but NOTHING WAS DONE. She beat him, then loved him. The passive aggressive behavior ended when she admited she was tired of him crying, and forced him to drink Pinsol. He doed in pain, scared and with a sense of no real love. I got to visit the house once on a call. Scary folk... Very scary. it took all i had to NOT kill this woman. i cry EVErYTIME i think about that little guy.
We have major major, issues here right in our own backyards. yes, this stuff makes me sad, and many of you possibly have relatives there, or lived it yourself. and the USA is a great place to live, with all the freedoms and such. but lets get real as a society and realize we are not the fabulous people we think we are. Lets get back on track and worry about ourselves...
