As much as I do think they deserve it, I think this is completely retarded. Why don't they just auction the cars off and keep the money for the state instead of turning them into unusable hunks of scrap? Ok, the owner of the one car was there to watch and he felt remorseful for his actions... But he stated he will continue to race cars and open up a shop to cater towards more people who will probably illegally race on the streets.

It can take a lot of time and a lot of money invested into building these street racers -- but they can be legally destroyed in just a few seconds.

1. The owner, or his friend would simply buy the car back.

2. The crushing of the cars is more to make a statement to the street racers out there. If they did this in Oakland with the sideshows...and simply closed a net around the cars...they'd have hundreds of cars to crush.
