yo yo yo

sorry i didnt go all
i know..i know.....

had to do some stuff at home, mainly read my @$$ off
on the up side, i found out that Koreans were a main target during the LA riots in 1992.
did you know that racial tentions were high between Koreans and African Americans?
and that the shooting of one 15 y.o girl by a Korean women started all the tention? And when the people that beat up rodney king was let go, tensions increased ten fold, African Americans blaimed their hardships on Koreans and their stores in LA. Koreans, outside their stores, guns in hand, called upon the police. The police did nothing, since it took the heat off them...They used the Koreans as a scapegoat..The anger the African Americans felt was centered towards Koreans, not the police..sad
oh well, sorry if i offended anyone

sorry i couldnt make it

A Friday Night meet would be a good idea at some point!!!

Dorfto sorry you couldnt make the meet.

regarding the L.A. riots: yes I was aware of that tension between the races. At the time of the riots I was living in pasadena which is ten minutes up the road from LA. I was working at a huge rehab where we had alot of guys from the penn in treatment. There was alot of racial tension there even on a good day. WHen the riots broke out many guys just left the place. We escorted some of the employees home as the smoke filled the air. IT was very sad.

IN a multi-cultural class last year the prof showed a film which included the footage from the korean owned liquor/convience store. The camera showed a fiesty young Black gal who appeared to be stealing. The Korean (older woman) verbally confronted the girl about it. The black girl got into an altercation with the smaller older korean woman as the korean woman tried to take the item back. The Korean woman pulled out a pistol from behind the counter and Blam..............shot the girl..

The problem was a cultural one. First-generation Korean-American shop owners felt that all they needed was to work hard, work long hours, pay the bills, save to buy a home and put the kids through college. I don't think they really understood at the time that they should try harder to become a part of the community and not just sell goods there.

Here is another story I remember seeing on the news during the riots. It stood out from the footage of armed Korean shop owners that was shown over and over. It's about one Korean-owned shop in L.A. that was protected by friends in the neighborhood.

-Wingless wonder thats a great article..thanks.. It just go to show the reader all of the reality of that neighborhood and the fiber of those who believe in doing the right thing no matter what.

As the looting persisted in LA there was people from all ethnic backgrounds who were stealing as well as protecting.....A social analyst might say it was a war of the have-nots to the haves. A racial analysys would have said it was skin color thang. It was just general hysteria ...............I dont miss living in that area at all. Strangly enough there were many folks from the twelve-step A.A groups who helped clean up the mess after the riots.

So is oppression political? economic? racial? or family system perpetrated????
