paved roads are good too. That way, I don't have to change tires

OK how's this....

I'm looking at about a 5- hour 150 mile or so "tour" starting in Auburn right around 10AM, and running up into the hills (not really full-on into the mountains yet, as they are still covered in a lot of snow) and visiting out-of-the-way towns/townsites like Georgetown, Soapweed, Croft, Volcano, and Fiddletown, finishing in Elk Grove.

I think most of the route I've picked is paved, but we'll be on the lookout for unpaved stuff, maybe check a little of it out, but save the real "dirt journey" for another time.

If you can't make Auburn at 10, we'll be passing through Placerville about noon.

Anybody care to join me?

So in Auburn- if you get off 80 onto 49 S towards Placerville, 49 does a little loop northward before heading East then south.
The top of that loop it crosses Borland Ave, I say we try to meet there at 49 and Borland, right about 9:45- and we'll leave there at 10.

In Placerville, we'll be coming into town on 49/Spring street, cruising up Main street, probably stopping for gas, and heading out of town on Broadway/Newtown Road- should be through right about 12.

See you there!

Is this the intersection where 49 comes to the stop light before heading into the hills?

Maybe

I'm not exactly sure, but it is the intersection of highway 49 and Borland Ave- I'm just looking at a map-

but the GPS coordinates would be:
38.90416N
121.06519W

if that's any help.....

my cell number is 510-541-2306, so if you get there and don't see a black WRX wagon waiting around....

This is kinda private property but big enough where it is not guarded: Cavitt Stallman Rd. just off Sierra College Blvd.
At the end of the road is a peice of dirt with a man-made lake and about 3-4 miles of twisting muddy roads. This is where I dented my oil pan. On second thought maybe you better stick to blacktop. The best road I know of is just beyond Forest Hill bridge.

Thumbs up

How could I have forgotten! The infamous Scott Rd. outside of Folsom. There is even a jump there where I witnessed a friend in his '88 Saleen (SC) get about 4-5 feet in the air. HOLY CRAP!

I'm down for this drive on Sunday... You say it will be about a 5 hour drive on Sunday? So starting at 10, it should approximately end at 3? I probably wont be able to make it to where you're meeting in auburn until about 10:15... any chance you guys can wait up?

Can someone post an address to meet at so that we can use Yahoo Maps to get to?

Can I get someone's cell phone number who's going for sure, that way I can call and make sure I meet up with you guys?

Thumbs up AMAZING!

that was amazing!! seriously the most fun ive EVER had in a car! that was the first time ive ever had the oportunity to drive a car aggressively on gravel roads and the WRX made it all the more fun!

sliding the back around and feeling the full throttle 2nd gear pull out of the corners was simply awesome.

pavement is fun, but im absolutely ADDICTED to the dirt now!

thanks for leading the way Pete! i need to get those GPS waypoints for that gem of a mountain road!
