Yeah that's the kind of info that you would think would be public knowledge. Maybe I should read my owners manual.

sorry to hear Natalie :/

Good thing when we blew out our tire and wheel with a huge bolt on the freeway and used the spare on the rear nothing happened to our car and i know we did more than 20 miles on it as well. We did however take all back roads to home so we could drive slow.

Good info in here for future reference.

Does anyone know if the '05 and below WRXs' spares will fit over the 4pot calipers? I have an '02 bugeye with 4-pots in the front. If mine won't fit over the 4-pots, would the 2001 RS fit? (since their stock 16" fits over the 4-pots)

No, those spares WILL NOT work. You need an '06+ WRX spare. Otherwise you just plain can't spare.

This was like 7 years ago when I bought my 03, so I'm not 100% on it, I've never had a flat so I never had to use a spare.
That is a trait unique to the automatic transmission.

As strange as it might sound, the back roads could be what saved it. If you were turning left/right say down a winding road, the difference would be absorbed in the diffs doing what they do. The problem is cruising in a straight line where in the rear, the limited slip system will fight itself to the death and same deal to a lesser extent with the center diff.

soo update is that all new tires and changed all fluids... i THINK things are improving... 2 people drove it and said it there was noise and they could feel something in the pedals, when i drove it i took it out on the streets and did the montague 500 along with down capitol/great mall and seems ok to me.
gonna have g-reg and my other friend graham drive it since they drive subys more and see what they have to say. *fingers crossed*

btw... the fluid that came out has managed to make the shop smell like JDM diaharrea and all the neighbors are asking wtf died! i think you could seriously injure someone by making them smell it for too long! *barf*

everyone please use this thread as a learning tool!

In my 06 owners manual there is nothing about not putting the spare tire on the rear of the car. the diagrams used show the flat tire is on the right rear of the car.

the fuse advice is for only the automatic not the manuals.

Maybe call the dealer and/or SOA for advice?

LOL about the smell...yeah diff oil, no smell good. [complete tangent/OT alert] I think it was something about the ingredient needed to give diff oil "anti-shearing" properties...believe its sulfur related.

If you work on different makes, you'll start noting that even the oils have different scents between them.

sorry, that last part brought back memories of when i worked at an engine importer...nissan smell different than toyota smell different than Honda, and oh BOY did the diff oils have a smell to knock you off your foot.

oh hellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll no..... lmfao!! that's kinda like a co-worker of mine that used to destroy the men's roo...oh wait i digress.

no, i DID NOT know that! that's so awesome that they make GRAPE () smelling oil. Hmmm, 75W90? that looks like it could be diff oil, or is that for manual trannies? (pun not intended)

and wowsers, i can't imagine what burnt GL-5 oil would smell like. I remember smelling burnt ATF, and GL-5 smells bad enough, but burnt diff oil? No wonder you guys were all
