Correct
I was at the EURO meet once and I've seen VW with custom made "California Republic" plate with dude's actual plate number.
Looked cool

Front one I think 40" front the ground mounted front facing outside the vehicle. Now putting a non US plate is a 1000 dollar ticket something like that. Noncorrectable. Front plates can be cut as long as the letters/numbers are clearly readable.

Europlated cars are usually imported from Europe and brought through customs and some how are allowed to run the original plates.

Your license plate(s) belong to the state of California, if they wanted to be a hardass about it, they could charge you for purposely defacing and damaging state property.

Technically once your title is in the state's name, you car isn't owned my you anymore, but by the state of california.... unless you get the bill of sale and refuse to send it out with a new car... but oh wait forgot you can't register it then... you're screwed either way.

no, you cant cut your front plate like that, you must be able to read the issuing state, this also goes for license plate frames that obscure the issuing state.

Also the plates must be mounted to the front and back of the car, so you guys that just throw the front plate on your dash, thats illegal too.

heres the entire California vehicle code for plates

CA Codes (veh:5200-5206)

^Yeah.

Might as well just get vanity plates, then you might actually want to have them on the car.

move to neveda or utah, they don't require front plates.

I think actually think its worst riding around with jdm plates than having no plates in the front. just put it on during the meets or shows.. and put your regular one on after..

also, since this is on the bay area section...Parking enforcement in the city gives fix it tickets for no front plates.

Nevada is a 2-plate state. You can only not run a front plate if the car was not designed for a front plate and the manufacturer did not provide an add-on bracket.
