Smile Roof (bike) Rack on WRX Sedan...Comments?

Howdy all,

I was just wondering if anyone out there has a bike/ski/kayak/X/ rack on a sedan?

If so any ill effects on the door sill? water leaks? glass chips? cracks? etc....

Yakima says that you have to close the door carfully bc the clips actually hit the glass. Damm these frameless windows...

BTW Im looking to get a Yakima if that makes any difference.

TIA

I have a roof rack - never had a problem with the windows hitting the clips. You just have to make sure that when you put the rack on that everything is tightened down and adjusted correctly.

I am thinking about getting a hitch and mount for carrying bikes around. I am looking into it because subaru paint is easily scratched by roof rack mounts. Planning on hauling my bike up to Northstar a lot this summer, and I'm curious to see if I get better gas mileage with the bikes on the rear.

if you have a hitch, you can either make your own or buy one.

most convenient (although i couldnt find mine this weekend -long story... when i picked up a new bike...)

not just better mileage but less worrying about hitting the bike on low stuff like parking garages (at least on my truck), etc.

I have a Yakima ski rack. The clamps don't touch the glass and the doors seal just as normal. I've used it for three years now without any problems. The only annoying thing I've noticed is that the feet scuff the roof a bit where they sit. I've now put some of that clear, stick-on bug/stone chip guard where the feet go to prevent this happening.

I think it said in the instructions to be careful the first time you close the doors to make sure the glass doesn't get hit.
