If you want to track it right away, just get a cheaper roll bar that is SCCA legal, no reason for a cage just yet.

I have a blue STi, and I will be running in group 3.

Is it his first time at any track ever, or just his first time at Thunderhill? Either way, with first times at new tracks it is really helpful to get an instructor. The ones from NASA are top notch and really do help you go faster. Even going into Group 3 I will still try and get instuction from someone if I can.

Saturday will be an interesting day as it is looking like it may be quite wet. So unless your friend has lots of other track experience, he should be more careful, but that is just my opinion.

Have fun at the track, maybe we'll run into each other. If you manage to get any pictures of me on the track post them up. :-D

I am betting that NASA will put him into Group1 even before he gets there as they do ask you to list your experience before you sign up. However if he dosn't get put into group 1 have him try get an instructor, or if none are aviable do a lead follow with an instructor who is driving in that group.

RWD + rain + first time might not be fun for him, especially without an instructor. This is my 10th day or so going with the STi, though the first in the wet, and I'm a little bit apprehensive. Just tell him to keep where he is comfortable and build on that. (With an instructor you can build a lot faster.)

I've become a fanatic with checking the weather this last week. The biggest thing is that I don't want it to rain tomorrow night when I arrive, because I am going to setup a tent, change my tires, and change my brakes. I really don't want to do that while getting soaked.

For the rest of the weekend, dry is better, but the rain will be really interesting.

well, guess i'm the guy who's gonna total his car in the rain... I signed up for saturday cuz on tuesday, it said it would be more likely rain on sunday... damn. Anyways, I tried getting into group 1 but it was all full so i had to sign up for group 2. I'm going to try to get an instructor, or maybe have my friend, who I think used to be a licensed instructor tag along with me. Hope to see everyone out there.

Just play it smart and you and your car will be fine. Have fun, and see you on the track.
