It also depends on what airline. On American, you can go online and change your seat provided that the seat you want is not preassigned. Maybe different rules apply for int'l flights...

Flight to the UK, $600.
Internet access at the airport, $20.
Whining about not getting an emergency exit seat to your friends online, priceless.
Sorry Huck, I couldn't resist :-D

I just went to/from the UK a couple times last year and found that for some reason with United and Virgin at least, there is more leg room now. I am only 6'1" but still usually have my legs firmly pressed into the seat in front of me..
Also, United charges like an extra $100 for emergency exit row now... Hahaha..
I will be heading to the UK, Spain and Sweden for June and July.. Wee. Getting married in Scotland - 07/07/07.

Congrats on the exit row dude. I had no idea you were 240 lbs.
As for me, when I'm stuck in the international terminal, I always try to find cute Japanese girls to talk to. But that's just me.

BTW, if you are flying to the UK you may get lucky - it is relatively off-peak. I flew back two weeks ago and the plane was so empty I had the whole row to myself. I put up all the armrests and slept along the seats. Coming back was almost as quiet.

I had the same luck on a BA flight out of SFO on Feb 12th. On the entire back section of the plane we each had a row to ourselves.
Coming back though last week it was like sardines.
