Drive down Highway 25, to Los Gatos-Coalinga Rd, to Highway 198 and back to 25 north.
Should be about a 4-5 hour trip, leaving San Jose about 8:30am.
Highway 25 takes you through the desolate Bitterwater Valley south of Hollister and The Pinnalces. Popular with the motorcycle crowd. Los Gatos-Coalinga is a twisty, part-one-laner (similar to Mines Rd.) that climbs up over the Diablo Range and down into the western extreme of the SJ Valley, near the oilfields of Coalinga. 198 is a windy state highway stretching between Coalinga and San Lucas, and intersects some cool roads, like Parkfield grade, Peach Tree and Highway 25. Highway 25 at its southern end is good for some high speed attacks, lots of long smooth straights and large radius curves. And DESOLATE.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate, it can get oven hot out there at times.
We can decide on lunch beforehand....any ideas, post them here.
I drove thru a large portion of the Salinas valley today, came up over Nacimientio from Highway 1 and went thru Hunter Liggett, and up to Salinas after camping at Big Sur all weekend. A cool drive, except for the army base.
see you on the 15th
