Question Reliable Honda Repair in SF?

Wanted to know if anyone can recommend an INEXPENSIZE and RELIABLE Honda repair/mechanic in the City? My wife's Civic won't start and has a CEL. There is no way I'm gonna pay dealer prices. So if anyone has any info. I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!!!

Stan

just out of curiosity Stan, what year is the Civic? And as far as inexpensive & reliable, sorry man I don't know of any in SF. I do all my repairs on my civic. I even did an engine swap on it myself...

you can check out the showplace motor works located @ 715 Branna Street in San francisco. They replaced my whole steering rack, replaced cv boots, and did some tuneup on my 93 si before. they seem very honest and their rates are good. give em a call @ (415)431-8282.

It's a '95 Civic Sedan 4AT. Car's been taking a beating ever since my Subie kicked it out of the garage an onto the street. Got a CEL driving up the grapevine back in April of last year. Never really took care of that. Now the car doesn't start. I'm sure the two aren't related.

Just the thought of some a*hole dealer charging me a $129 just to pull the CEL code pisses me off to no end.

Just need someone to pull the code. Fix the problem and get the car running again. 79K miles. It's the only car that my wife will drive. She's afraid to drive the Subie.

Sup Stan,

Since that car is an OBD1 car, you do not need a scanner for it to pull the codes. All you need is a piece of wire or paper clip to pull the codes.

This is what you need to do...locate the factory two-pin connector of brown and black wires near the ECU (it's actually close to/underneath the glove box). Pull that 2-pin connector out of the main harness. Using a wire or paper clip as a jumper. Connect the outputs of the harness together so that the black wire and the brown wire make a circuit. Once this is jumped together, the dash will start the light show, so its a good idea to jump first, then turn to on (do not start). The CEL light will start to flicker on and off. For example...the output will be in a Morse code style of long and short lights. For example, 2 long, pause, 3 short is 23.

Let me know what the output is and I can look up the code for you or you can look it up. Either way, just let me know and i can help you out...

Nah man, it's actually pretty easy. The actual connector is blue in color with green shielding over the brown and black wires (located right under the glovebox @ the passenger side). Try it, the way the lighting goes is pretty distinct so you can tell what it's trying to do right away.
