snitch tickets are basically "fake" tickets the police send out to people who ran a red light. I think the main point of this is to find the person who ran the red light? not 100% sure

 

I was actually just talking to my law enforcement buddy about red light tickets last night.

If there was a cop that witnessed you running the red light and physically gave you the ticket then you are boned.

However if you were tagged by a redlight camera, it's not a legal ticket. Fight it and it will get dropped. A LEO must be present and write the ticket for it to be a legitimate ticket.

Yeah its called your right to Due Process. Alameda County just sends you a courtesy notice/conviction letter/invoice/photo album.

 

I got a ticket for running a red light. Went to court printed out google street view showing that the officer couldn't actually see if I ran the red or not and won. Don't know about the camera but court is always worth it.

And your cop buddy obviously doesn't understand/know how the citations are actually issued - which I find odd for a LEO to not know anything about unless he works out in podunk...

A police officer does physically watch you blow the light and personally issues the citation.. They usually have photographs, video, and radar data. But an actual flesh and bones peace officer reviews the footage and issues / signs the citation. If you fight it in court - you will meet him/her..

Red light cams are a huge deal right now for sure - but don't expect to just fight and beat a red light cam citation without an actual defense re: the citation itself - not the method used to deliver it.. Unless you have huge $$ and are looking to make a point/ set precedent (not save money)- you will lose.
