Reccomendations for Powder Coating Services
Does anyone here know of a good place in the bay to get a set of rims sandblasted and powder coated. This one dude I talked to on the other forum told me I can get them done for $200 at a place called Spray Lat, he just didn't tell me where it is. If you guys have any reccomendations please let me know.
Thanks

Any machine shop should have a beed blaster or sandblaster...I prefer beeds.
I'd call a local machine shop and find out who they use. If you know anyone at a machine shop ask them.
My room mate works at a machine shop so he can have someone at the shop blast my stuff for me then he sends it out to one of his painters. See these machine shops have stuff painted, zinc coated, anodyzed...etc... in mass. So they can get favors from painters.
Maybe go that route.
Or just call up some paint shops......
You could try....
408-242-8921....ask for david. They powdercoat.

I've had good luck with Component Finishing on Aldo St in Santa Clara. When I've had wheels done before, it's right at $50-55 per wheel.
Bay Area Powdercoating....... Located in Oakland.
use yellow pages or smartpages.com to find phone number.
Skinny White elderly guy owns shop. Slow work. But good guy.
Relatively cheap.....
If your looking for gold, your screwed. They cant powdercoat the gold color on advans or rotas or the golds on uk 17" wrx wheels. (so depressing)
Hope that helps

$200 is a very good price to blast and powdercoat wheels, and take it from someone who has spent many working hours running and abrasives blaster, wheel paint WILL require sand not bead blasting. Wheels will be fine with sand blasting, the only time you want to be careful about using a sandblaster is when you are blasting a thin or detailed piece, or when your worried about adding a small amount of surfac hardness to a wear surface, none of these should apply to wheels
Bay Area Powder coating took about 3 weeks for mine.
From what I can gather from reading and vising different powdercoating places, the usual turn around is 1 week.
A few days to do sandblasting.... 1 - 2 days depending how many layers they have to take off to get to the base coat.
Applying the powder coat is cake, usually only a day to get it done since they blast it with heat in the oven.
But I got a great deal, but it took so long...
You can speed up the process by trying to take off the paint yourself, so there is less sandblasting to do. Home Depo has paint remover called JASCO. Its like 15 - 25 dollars for a big gallon. Its kinda like really potent jelly Xylene/Toulene/Paint Thinner. This will remove everything given enough time.
