instead of "wave" substitute acknowledgment.

example: If someone checks out your car and gives you some acknowledgement (could be thumbs up, head nod, evil eye, small sneer, middle finger) *most* people would return in kind.
unless maybe insecure about your ride...
or unless you just don't give a s***, that's fine too.

but if some sense of cameraderie or esprit de corp or wtf isn't in your nature, then why waste time posting messages on some eboard...?

and these are just cars, after all. you make your own reality and whether it represents any sense of community or not is up to you.

it should never be compulsory, imho.

In my college town there's not too many subies, so only the impreza folks are down with the waving. I wave at any impreza, but the legacy and forrester drivers just don't know. There's this one kid in town though who never waves, he just tries to look hard. He's got the riciest WRX in town too.

I wave,

BTW using gay as a negative term makes you look like a redneck.

I knew there was going to be a 'voice of reason' in this thread...just knew it!

BTW im a redneck and usually wave when waved at. Nothing is worse than a premature wave to someone that's 'not in the loop'. They look at you like you're a lunatic...at that point i start making offesnive jestures, faces and drive all crazy.

With that said i usually wait for eye contact before waving. I don't think waving is "gay"...i actually like the fact subbie owners wave because it makes our family much better than saturns.

I was visiting my bud in Reno and came up on an '02-'03 WRB rex, with modified exhaust. She merged into the left turn lane so when we pulled up together at the light I waved slowly to get her attention then flashed her (don't go there!) a thumbs-up. It took her a half a second to realize what was happening until she saw what I was driving, then she smiled.

Another time I gave a thumbs-up to a carload of young guys in a rex as they passed by in a Costco parking lot. The driver gave me a hard-*ss look then revved and chirped the tires. Kids - whaddya gonna do?

Wow, that's a terrible thing to imply, that all rednecks think negatively of gays. And you've also insulted a whole subculture, gay rednecks. Would you please post with more sensitivity. Thanx.

Heh yeah, I dunno which is worse: waving and getting the "you're a nutcase" look, or getting that look after a thumbs up. Sometimes, I think people jumped to the conclusion that I'm flipping them off (once a very rare while, they're actually right ). I seems that with thumbs up people assume you're trying to convey "Hey great job driving... moron!". I pretty much only wave at hopped up Imprezas and switch off between waving and a thumbs up, just because of the propensity for people to assume you're being negative about their driving habits. But I do give The Nod to other makes and modesl of hopped up cars that look and sound good.
