"Random Checks" at Airports
I am constantly flying and always have been, yet this topic comes to my interest as I am here waiting for my flight again. These "Random Checks" are really not so random in my views any more. I'm glad the government and airport security are doing their job no doubt, especially with that guy hiding explosives in his underwear, but I have been checked EVERY single time that I've flown. Today I was id'ed 3 times and of course they looked through my backpack, which I am almost used to.
Every trip from Europe, Asia, and Mexico to even domestic flights from Oakland to SD.
For my trip to Asia, I got my backpack checked 3 times at 3 different locations, then asked to remove some clothing.
Just in case people were wondering my skin color, I'm a 100% Korean.
But I guess its for the safety of all so wtv. Just thought I'd share cuz I'm early as usual to my flight with nothing to do.
Have a nice Sunday!

im getting ready to fly from hong kong to sfo tomorrow morning. not looking forward to all of the "increased" security. are they letting people use electronics on the asia flights? ive heard theyre doing some ridiculous things on us domestic flights.
I always felt that the "random checks" were BS. It's not like the guy has a random number generator with Pass/Stop screen. I think the "randomness" varies with age, I don't think it has anything to do with skin color.
They are definitely NOT random. In 2002-2003 I was travelling quite a lot for business. Several flights were booked one-way only because of variable return times. In addition, I was taking computers + audio equiment.
This got me onto the "random" list. For about 3 years I would be stopped for additional questioning at check-in, security, and at the departure gate. My baggage was always searched as well.
The only reason they say "random" is to avoid getting in trouble for profiling.
To be fair, I don't mind reasonable security for air travel, but I think they go OTT to show they are trying. For example, they once confiscated a pair of nail clippers from me because "they could be used as a weapon" ??

They just need to hurry up with the giant walk through X-Ray machine like in Total Recall to help reduce the amount of time needed to stop people. The security performed by TSA is bogus and really hasn't done much of any good.

I don't think they are random at all, but I think they are still good, I'm a 6"4inch white guy and I get checked all the time. It's not a problem but I can tell you that the "look" of people get them searched for a reason.

So they are searching you to weed out all of those European giant terrorists?

true. its not always the skin color, its the look of the person. sometimes i get checked, sometimes i dont. I prefer getting checked and having them go through my **** instead of getting blown to bits and then falling 35,000 feet
This is one reason I don't like to travel anymore. TSA is basically worthless, the last time I flew, I forgot to pack my Leatherman into my luggage and *BOTH* times, TSA failed to see it in my carry on. I think half of the people that look at the x-ray machines don't know what they are looking at...
If you want to know what real airport security is, take a trip to Tel Aviv.

like he said, I'm 6'4' white and I dress really nice, please don't get mad if you a minority and want to drop the race card. I work with a Indina guy who I travel with all the time for work and he never gets picked at "Random"
