That's what it looked like to me. My buddy said he saw one on i-5.
I want one reallly bad. LOL!
That bike they build is sick too. Super clean. It looks like they do submitted designs and stuff for future projects. Pretty cool idea.

Not really sure why they say the STI varies to much from the wrx to use the parts.
Seems like an STI would be a way better place to start. Better brakes. 6 speed. Stock would have more power. Plenty for that platform.

Ray, you live under a rock shaped like a workload or what the past few years?
Pppsssshhh, got to do a ride-a-long and then drive one myself out in Boulder City, NV. Hopefully they've fixed the water intrusion dead engine issue.
I want one, too bad I would end up ruining so many people's days sitting with it in traffic.

Probably mostly to do with the hub and brake assemblies. They aren't subaru enthusiasts and probably don't know about doing weird hybrid axles. 06-07 6speeds with stubs and stuff like that. It would also bust their 15k budget thing out of the water.
2) 5 speed durability is not an issue due to 2WD... tires break traction before gears break
3) 5 speed tall gearing is beneficial. a <2000 pound RWD car has so little traction on the driven wheels taller gearing is faster than short gearing... completely opposite an AWD car.
The 5 speed is virtually ideal for the 818.
Brake-wise you're probably right, but such a light car is more likely to work with stock brakes. The tranny is the big reason for a WRX though. The 6 speed is several inches longer and it just plain doesn't fit.

Wow, that thing is pretty wicked looking. Reminds me of the McRae rally machine - have to look that up again.
Hmm, my WRX is kind of a wreck. Haaaaaaa.
Check out their forums - there is some cool info, builds and discussions on there. The main reason behind the 5spd is size as someone else mentioned, but additionally, according to them, there is not a good solution to convert the 6spd to 2WD where there are kits for the 5spd.
Someone else mentioned that without AWD grip, and so much less weight, the tranny should last a while. In fact, this is one reason that I am rebuilding my 5spd. They seem to be worth a lot these days.
