I'm thinking of taking mine apart and painting the silver stuff red, or black

Here's a pic for reference (not my car, but same tails)

What do you guys think? Paint all the silver stuff red, and keep the circles as is? I don't think painting it black would be a good idea since my car is gray, and I have red mud flaps.

Has anyone done this? Someone out there has had to have done this... Results? Did it turn out good? What sort of paint did you use to fill in the silver with?

I don't want to paint the outside of the tail light, or put a film on it or anything like that... I want to bake them, crack them open, paint the silver part with some sort of opaque red so that it will look stockish.

I'd buy a set but I don't have money to spend on myself right now due to Xmas and crap coming up, so it's one of my only choices... Either trade + $50, or DIY.

Daniel, is that silver around the circles ever illuminated? I think it'd look cool to have it all red except for the two circles, but I'd make sure it'll operate as a proper tail light first (correct color reverse light and turn signal).

I have to finish up a logo project after class today, but if I have extra time/energy I'll see if I can photoshop it red.
