question for people who use that type of jacks.

where exactly do you jack up the car? jack points?

 

Any brand in particular you guys recommend?

And where is a good place to get redline motor oil

 

I think I must have a crappy ramp I have a stock 99 OBS (6.5" clearance) and it won't make it up w/o scraping unless I jack the car or put wood in front of the ramp.
Thats probably cuz it was made in the 60's for the GM factory
But then again so were my jackstands and floor jack. . . wait, so were 99% of my tools for the car

i think stores like kragen, or pepboys, walmart all lists out their products online and some even allow inventory search!

they were the first retailer to sell Redline, so they get the best deal.

as for brand of jack. i use the cheap ones from pepboys as they are sufficient for my needs so far in the past year. 30 dollars for 2 ton jack, 2 jack stands, a crawler, wheel chocks. red baron is the brand i think.

I jack my car on the rear diff and the oilpan. No problems yet, but the idea scared me at first.

hmm... i personally wouldnt jack it up in the oilpan, id rather use the jacking plate near the oil pan.

 

if you want to be cautious use your pinch welds underneath your sideskirts. Or, use the differential in the rear, and the plate in the front. I have a Craftsman jack w/ craftsman stands, when your life is on the line if they fail i'm willing to pay the extra 50$. But since my neighborhood is still in construction there's great pieces of wood, around 4-5 inches thick that i use as ramps, as well as small thin pieces of wood as helpers to get on. Though, I agree that unless your car is lowered it's pretty easy to change your oil w/o a jack.

I'm sticking with the oil pan and diff though. I've had ZERO problems, and it seems insanely strong and in an awesome position. But thats just me.

a vendor a while back (I think writerguy.com) uses the rear diff w/ a diff protector on it. I just remember reading it but am too lazy to find it.

i usually just drive over a piece of wood, and im able to change the oil.

 

yah the oil pan is strong.
id use mine too, if i didnt have faith in the jacking plate, or if my oil pan wasnt dented
