Question for those of you who work on their car

Finally got the will to do my own oil change. I know it's an easy task, but have been too lazy to do it myself. Anyhow, just wondering what jack and jackstand is good to get. There are so many brands out there which range from 30bux at walmart to 200+ ones.. I would like to know which are the ones to get and which ones not to get..

I am not going to running a garage or anythign like that .. maining going to use the jack to do the regular oil change and so on... so I really don't want to invest too much.. or is the car jack that came with the car good enough to do the job

Thanks in advance.

I've been using the same $20 dollar jack and stands for years. They were pretty cheap, but they've never let me down. I carry them in my trunk intsead of my OEM(VW) scissor jack.

I'll say again, unless you're really lowered, you don't even need a jack.

But ramps are the easiest/least-death-prone way to raise the car to change the oil.

good luck cheers and enjoy

what do you use the curb method? one wheel up? haaa. I used to do that with my truck.

as for not needing jacks....you must be a much slimmer man than I..haa.

OMA, i thought we had that discussion, but I have a www.fumotovalve.com and a crappy plastic drain pan. The filter is right near the front of the engine, and I have reasonably long arms.

I would never go under my car without jackstands...I'd do the ramps though, they make so cool ramps out of recycled tires now their like $40

I got this setup from Sears. Comes with a floor jack and two jack stands for around $50. Never had any problems with it. Use it all the time to work on my cars...

I have that same setup, the jackstands are ok, a little short, but the jack sucks. Costco has an aluminum "racing" jack for like 100 that I think I'll pick up soon.

I don't think a rhino ramp will work for me.. as my car is a bit low... other than the racing jacks.. what is the next best thing??

They'll probably work. They worked on my wagon even when I had the JIC coilovers set VERY low. Only WRX's I ever saw that were lower in front had body kits

They also work on a C5 Vette......which if you've ever looked, are quite low in front AND have a ridiculously long overhang (i.e. curb scraper).

Most places like autozone, kragen, etc., will sell little sets that include a pair of jackstands and a jack for around 30-40 bucks. Not bad and mine work well
