I believe the STi uses a different oil filter. Can't say for sure.

STi oil filter: 15208AA080 (which is smaller)
Older style Filter for WRX: 15208AA060

you need the ***80 one for the STi I believe. You should also start using those on Turbo model WRX's

Has anyone come up with a place to buy an STI filter for less than $16. That is what they stick me for at Diablo Subaru. Don't worry that is the only thing I get there.

Dude, I get mail ordered filters for less than $16 a piece. You are getting ripped off. Here is the deal with the filters. Both will work on the WRX and STi just fine, in terms of fitment. It is recommended that you run the AA080 filter because it has a new type of filter element that is much better than what purolater uses. The AA060 filter is now primarily used on NA motors while all turbo motors get the AA080.

I know I'm getting ripped off. What are you paying for the AA080 including shipping? And who has the best deals? Thanks, Brian

I pay for one for like $9 with a crush washer and shipping. Obviously the more filters I order the cheaper it is because it is easier to just ship more filters at one time then just one.

I bought them through my local dealership when I was in Santa Barbara for school.

dont go to diabloe subaru. they are teh ghey! i bought a 6 back of filters on allsubaru.com. not sure if they have STi filters, but do a search online and find the online retailers. even with s/h the net total of each filter wont be the huge ripoff that diablo expects to get. they freaking charge $2.xx for a 89 cent crush washer. they should go to hell. i mean they are diablo and all.

subaruparts.com or allsubaru.com sell the OE filters and crush washers cheaply.

The black small ones (080) are made by Toyo Roki in Japan. They switched all the turbo models from the old bigger white filters because the big ones are too close to the exhaust, and "may" cause the oil to heat up unnecessarily. The small ones give it a little more space. This was from a Subaru dealer bulletin posted somewhere here which I read.

Try Langstonspeed. They have oil filters for the STI for $5.18
http://www.langstonspeed.com

And then get the futomoto valve and forget about washers.

Unhappy

Okay, I'm still really confused.

Went to 1stsubaruparts.com and ordered the 'oil filter and gasket (turbo)' which says '2002 and newer' next to it (for my '02 WRX). Also ordered 'oil filter and gasket' which says '1990 and newer' next to it (for my '00 Outback).

The 'turbo' filter is a 15208AA100 and is MUCH smaller than the on for the Outback, and doesn't match the 15208AA080 or 060 that has been mentioned here.

The parts guy confirmed that "that is definitely the filter you want"

Hmm...

True, false?

I also had filter confusion between my WRX, RS and L with the local $tealership [Carlsen] and Subaruparts.com (a STELLAR business, awesome in all regards).
