Sometimes when i start my car the car would idle like sh*t and smoke comes out the tailpipe. After about 20 seconds everything returns to normal. Smoke kinda smells like unburnt fuel and oil at times. Happens a couple times a day. Idle would drop really low and vacuum would go to like -15 and then start to go back down to -21 as the idle comes back to normal. What do you think could be wrong? Mods are full turbo back, crank pulley, uppipe, fuel pump and a bigger tmic. This is a 2005 sti btw. And it doesnt smoke at all while driving only happens on start up sometimes..

 

wow good question i have the same question. cept my car is an 04 wrx with only an axle back, sti tmic, hks bov and injen CAI. if someone could point something out for us? that would be great!

 

only at startup for you as well, or off an on? Could be the oil seals in the turbo gone bad. This happened to Both OneManArmy and myself. He has had this problem since 60K miles I think, and 70K miles for me.

 

Do you have any after market engine management?

 

i had this problem and it turned out that my MAF sensor wasn't pluged in completely, from changing my intake. it might not be the same problem for you but its worth a try.

 

well my maf is fully in and for me its only at idle until the car is warm up. if i start up the car in the morning and let it sit for a minute or 2 then go, a cloud of smoke would come up but if i let it sit for more then 4-5 minutes then no smoke so im not to sure waht the problem is.

 

mine was only at idle also. when i drove there was no problem.

 

no engine management yet. Maybe it is my turbo seal going out. Im @ 62,000 miles already

White smoke? Like steam? Sounds perfectly normal to me... happens on cold mornings and such?

 

it happens thoughout the days. Probably 2 times a day. Its dark smoke.

 

I know for you it might be the bov, if your car wasn't tuned properly. Even after mike at gst tuned my car with it my car, it still acted funny now i have a gfb 50/50 and i couldn't be happier. (Well it could be just a little bit louder.)
