Leo, FWIW the 2006 Solo Rulebook is now online (3.6 MB PDF File)

Applicable rule is 14.10.E, which is on page 75-76. Basically, can't touch the boost curve either thru electrical (i.e. ECU reprogram of the boost curve) OR mechanical (i.e. manual boost controller, different boost control solenoid/lines, non-stock blow-off valve) means.

I will be due for 60K service after I get back from my 5K+ mile roadtrip to the East Coast (leaving Saturday to Gulf Shores AL), will do the cooler range sparkplugs and get it Pro-tuned after the service is done.

I should also mention that I am planning on getting an STX tune for autocross AND a Stage 2 tune for the street.

Thanks again for letting me jump into your car and co-drive Sunday on (very) short notice. Got the turbo inlet hose tightened up, and spent lunch-hour Monday at work getting most of the oil spray off the turbo....finally quit smoking at traffic lights today

to be honest, last week i went from Cobb AP stage 2 cali back to stock, and i really do not think there is a 50+ hp difference between the two. in fact, i dont really *need* stage 2 anymore. total placebo...

but of course, this is just my car. i have heard of people getting more than advertised, so who knows.

at gruppes stock sti puts down 215-220, mine put down 250 with st. 2 cobb and 266 w tune

thanks ed for the detailed info. i'll be sure to bring my book with me. Have a safe trip across the country.
no way Rob, you won't see me in street mod! i'm staying in STX where it's relatively safe and away from the BIG boys (you know, race rubber and all)!

Thats like what happened to DrewsWRX, he dynoed cobb stage 2 and it was similiar to stock. It was like a 10+ page thread on the other site.

^ thats what im afraid might have happened with my car. of course, each car is going to have different results because of varying mods, different geographical regions (temperature/elevation), and the simple fact that not every car is going to end up with the same stage 2 result after the ecu is fully learned.

i think you are tripping man, my sti was stock i got borla catback, then dp catless, then ap with st.2 maps and i definitely felt it move into the solid 12 second quater mile feel, then i got a tune a few runs it put a best of 250 whp @gruppes with stage 2 map, then 266 with tune/288 torque. Stock one does 215-220 so i figure i got 50 whp=60-75hp???? I'd say thats a pretty good deal. I payed 100 plus my stock catback for borla,dp was 230 new, ap 450, tune 185. I can definitely feel a difference.

What i suggest you do is some top speed runs, i really noticed my stage 2 going up to almost 150, it came so fast compared to before i was amazed. Well the dyno probably just reads low, i think you are probably just worrying too much, if you got 50whp aren't you happy?

well i think i exagerated a bit. i dont think it makes *zero* difference. i mean, i can feel that it is faster and all, but not the way that people put it - like its a whole different car and that its so much faster they cant believe its so easy. a lot of it has to do with the mere excitement of putting on new mods and expecting more power. add that to the car to car variation, and you might get some outliers that dont see a whole lot more power. the silver lining is just if that extra power, however much is perceived, was worth the money you spent attaining it.

Yin (or anyone in the San Jose area): I can give you a ride in my car if you want to see if a Protune makes a difference or not. Mike @ Gruppe-S tuned my car back on December 23rd and got me (200.4 whp / 194.9 ft-lbs).

My mods are:

Bosal Up-pipe (999-391)
Prodrive center pipe (3CE)
Vishnu Power Pulley Kit (underdrive pulley)
Vishnu silicone intercooler hoses (black)
K&N drop-in high performance air filter for factory airbox
GPMoto elbow intake (PN 11304)
STI (OEM) axleback muffler
WRX (OEM) downpipe and midpipe

It's very noticeable difference on my 2004 WRX...

I got a custom tune from Mike over at Gruppe-S, And he did a great job. And there was a difference. On the charts and I feel it too. With a Cobb TBE, Cobb DP catless, Helix UP catless and Gruppe-S headers, I was at 199.1 HP and 200.8 TQ. Custom tune .. I'm at 213.4 HP and 220.0 TQ.
