Primitive Skid Plate
Does anybody have on here on their WRX or STI?
I'm thinking about getting one since I don't even have a plastic under tray on the car right now...
For those who have it, is it a hassle to take on and off when doing oil changes and what not?
The only downsides I see from having this on is the hassle of changing oil compared to having no undertray/skid plate and if I were to have some sort of oil leak, I might not see it at first?

To solve the oil change problem could you cut a hole where the oil plug is? Just a thought. I wanted to make one of these out of a stop sign or something. lol

Also I was wondering will this have any adverse affects on engine temp or something? It looks like there are barely any slits in the skidplate, and like I said earlier in my original post, I'm currently running with no sort of under body protection
@steven: won't I also need to have a hole cut for the oil drain plug?

Really taking off the plastic tray on my car and putting it back on only takes a few more minutes. If you are already taking ?? amount of time to change your own oil, then whats a few more minutes.
The way I see it is if you really care about your car, take the extra few minutes and hand wash it rather then take it through a car wash.

I have an earlier version of the Primitive plate on my '05 wagon, and have had if for a few years. I use some washer stacks on top to space it down a little, the design in your picture looks to have some spacers already included at the rear bolt holes. Mine came with a hole for the drain plug which I enlarged a little to accommodate a Fumoto drain valve. I the end I also cut out an oil filter hole just for convenience (I'm not doing lots of gravel).
Even when you do need to take it on and off it's not bad; there's knack.
Certainly helps with impacts. Last Thanksgiving we were down at Joshua Tree and driving back from the Salton Sea at night hit one of those big blue feedstuff barrels on the freeway. Must have fallen off a truck or something. Went right under and tore up the fender liners and left the front clip sagging. Plate was fine, and this was an 80 mph hit.
Haven't noticed any engine heat issues, even driving around the Central Valley in summer.

I personally run a Beatrush underpanel which is not as heavy duty as the Primitive skid plate. I'm happy to have it when I hear it hit snow or dirt.
However, I always feel a little bad when I drop my car off at LIC to have the oil changed. Sorry Noah!

They sell those with a hole cut for oil change access. The also help with cooling the engine as it forces air flow thru the engine bay. If you get one and have a front splitter. Use that to bolt up your splitter and not your front bumper.
Downside. If you have any type of aftermarket sub frame brace. make sure it fits before ordering.

Well, I have been running an old school with no vents one for 4 years. No "engine temp issues" (who thinks up this crap? You are not blocking the freaking radiator!!) I have saved my oil pan serious trauma on multiple occasions, and it takes about 5-10 minutes to take off depending on tools and how fast your work. The same 5-10 minutes I spend dicking with those stupid clips when they are full of dirt and road grime.
BUY IT. If an extra 10 minutes spent changing your oil is a big deal, the you should not have a performance car IMO.

It's four bolts to install and remove - with a beer in your hand and a socket wrench in the other, it should take you 3 extra minutes to remove it. You can also purchase it with the access holes already done, you can order it for cars with custom headers, you can order it for cars with the Fumoto valve.

I'm gonna get q primitive plate too. Does it interfere with a cusco type I brace? What about the stinger tail option?
I always take the plastic under tray off when doing oil changes so I'd expect the skid plate to be the same amount of work.
Also I think the under tray affects aero at freeway speeds. I doubt the skid plate affects cooling because there's plenty of escape room for the air on the sides and behind the plate.
