well you need to look harder as I have some really well priced 02's around that price range lately on Craigslist and local listings.

I just searched the entire Bay Area on Craigslist - search criteria was "WRX" and "12,000" as a max price. The search returned 3 WRX's. 2 were totals with heavy damage - one for $4500, one for $2900. The third was a silver '02 Wagon w/ 106k miles for $11,999 plus etc etc from a dealer.

This is only one search medium, but if WRXs were really "going for like 11k" then you would think there would be at least one on Craigslist in the entire Bay Area.

So once again, incorrect. This "argument" has come up many times when the topic of checking value on a RS comes up. Someone always adds the knowledge-free comment that "you could get a WRX for that." or something equally dumb.

yeah i have not been looking for a WRX for the past few months

gg looking in the most expensive place to find WRXs. You yourself even found a 02 wagon for under 12k

let me find some more for you if you really want to see

http://sacramento.craigslist.org/car/295402377.html <-- 10.9k for a 02 wagon

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/car/296119248.html <-- 12.7k for a nice looking WRX

http://reno.craigslist.org/car/275409375.html <-- 03 for 13k

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/car/295583205.html <-- another good price (11.2k) on a 02 wagon

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/car/294998988.html <-- 02 WRX sedan for 11.9k

and this was just a few searches, all within California. They would get even cheaper if you start looking more east.

my first Subaru was a 99 RS and I loved the car, but they are not all that special. The only reason people try to sell them for so much is they believe they are limited or rare, which they were to an extent, but they are not going to hold their value over another Subaru that handles better and has more power.

There is a 01 RS that I am currently looking at down south for 8k, thats a good price for an RS, I could not see spending more then 6-7k for a 98 when it does not even have the V5 front end the 99-01s have

thats a whole different ball game, and actually the road I am going down right now

but there are others (I was one as I bought a 05 STi) that would rather just drive a car off the lot with all the bells and whistles and not worry about the nickle and dime stuff it takes to do a proper swap.

to each their own

Hmm... Maybe because for $35k you get warranty, resale value, a stiffer chassis which is brand new. You also don't have to deal with the hassle of finding a superb-condition chassis/engine because it's NEW. Also I'm sure that in the end, making a GC8 STI is going to come out to about the same or more money wise (think about it: engine, tranny w/ diffs, suspension, brakes, etc), while being a bigger hassle.

I used to ask the same question and could not understand it at all. For some reason, I think it's mostly my current job, I just don't have time for car stuff anymore. It sucks for sure, but it's why I drive a R32 instead of my old '01 coupe with a swap which was the plan...

Though, ironically, the R32 has been in the shop over a week now on the third trip this time totalling more than $4k in just maintenance and repairs since 9/06 but that's completely my fault for not checking the car out first. Haha..

I'm jealous, lol. Though not jealous of the problems you're having. R32 makes the best sound ever (not including exotics/racing cars of course).

I have been casually looking for a WRX for the last few months off and on, and based on what I have found - it seemed that the statement "WRXs are going for like 11k now" was incorrect.

I searched in the Bay Area because.... For one, I live here dude. Not sure why that would be hard to understand. Also, this is a highly packed area - so it would seem logical that if there would be one, there would be one here. There are many other reasons that it makes sense. Yes, I found ONE single WRX in this major metropolitan area listed for exactly 1 dollar less than 12k but with an asterisk stating there would be additional charges on top of that price. With the comment thrown out and your undying need to prove me wrong, I figured I would at least see a couple. What I did find was not surprising to me.

Okay the above is actually pretty funny to me... The only two cars that are close to the price range discussed are not only THE SAME CAR but an automatic wagon. The next closest has 140k miles... <- look, I can do it too!

I am sure there are cheaper WRXs to be had if you want to travel to find them, but I don't think that is really relevant here. You and I have already proved that the statement "WRXs are going for like 11k now" is not true in relation to the area in question.

What does any of this have to do with this thread and are we done yet?

it has everything to do with this thread.. since, you know, this thread someone is asking what the selling price of his RS should be <-- I did it again just like you!

a RS is not that special, WRXs are getting cheaper(which is not always a good thing) and people like yourself are trying to maintain this stereotype that a GC/GM should be worth a ton of money because, well.. they are a GC/GM and thats the only reason.

prices are getting cheaper, WRXs can be found for 11k (OMG FACT) and the older body style will become cheaper over time as well.

yeah.. I'm pretty sure this has a lot to do with this thread. I think I am done now, unless you want to spout some more garbage as well.

Wow... You are a pro at internet arguing! All I can do is come up with competent counterpoints to your odd and usually incorrect statements (in this thread). You however have the power of new smileys I have not even seen!!

Just to be clear, no, actually, the price of a WRX has NOTHING whatsoever to do with this thread or the OP's questions. If you disagree, you are wrong - and that's ok. It's OK to be wrong.

An RS is as special as one wants it to be. If I thought they were so amazing as you are trying to portray that I do in your knowledge-free deduction, would I have sold mine? Food for thought.

Don't put words in my mouth, and don't tell me what you think I am trying to do. This guy has what he has said to be a pristine, low mileage RS coupe. What you fail to understand is that this bears no comparison to what someone would want to sell a different and newer model w/ OVER TWICE THE MILES for. If he had a car that was, in condition, comparable to a WRX that could be found for $11k (if such existed) you may have some semblence of a basis for comparison. Why not at least compare to the same model? Oh wait - that would make sense...

Yes - in your obviously extensive searching you found ONE single WRX for sale for $100 less than $11k in the entire state of California. You are continuing to prove yourself wrong. Fun for those watching I guess, but not sure what you are getting out of it.

Haha.. Yeah, the sound is addicting for sure. the problems are not the car's fault, as it turns out, it has quite a history in it's young life... Supposedly these are great cars.
