Price Feeler for a '98 2.5RS

Hi all,

I'm not selling my car just yet, but I could be if the price is right. Just from prior sales, what should be the ballpark of what I can get for my '98 2.5RS. Here are the specs:

'98 2.5rs black
has 01 stock rims, no goldies
61k miles, this would probably be the selling point i think.
Paint still in excellent condition
No major accidents in the car, still clean title.
5speed

It's pretty much stock with the exception of a short throw and kyb gr2 struts and eibach springs. I've had a couple of people come by to check it and they were amazed how clean it still was compared to many other RS's.

What should I expect for my beauty? Thanks everyone

i paid $7800 for mine in OCT 06, and im poor but i have a dedicated rally heart. id start off from at least $9000 depending on how fast you want to get rid of it. maybe some rich kid will ask daddy to buy it.

mine is 1999 white RS, AGX, eibach springs, borla catback, cusco rear sway. black oem 5 spokes potenza 050s

two door is what sold me...nothing screams rally more than that (besides a turbo :P ) although i here the 4 door RS are more rare??? not sure but i really dont like 4 doors on an RS.

black is a good color to have too, there are way too many silverthorn RS' for sale. I hardly see black or white- the dark blues are somewhat in the middle i think.

When you say $9000, do you mean start there and go lower? or the other way around. If im not in any hury to get rid of it, whats realistic? Thanks

well...start high and keep it there for a while, if someone really wants it at that price, they will buy it.

when your in a hurry to sell, you wont get as much, whether it be on your side needing money or the buyers side knowing they can hack away at your asking price cuz they know your desperate for money/storage space

the way i see it, you can ask $20,000 for your car and wait 5 years for a millionaire to see it and be like "thats the one" and its SOLD.

^^^just on a smaller scale, leave it at $9K for a few months and see if you catch anyones attention

$9K seems high for a 98 RS considering 02 WRX's are going for like $11K lol

$9k does seem high for a '98 RS, however the comparison to a WRX is irrelevant.

The best thing to do (IMHO) is look at edmunds or kbb.com, get correct values for your car both private party and trade-in. You will most likely sell it for somewhere around there. Before setting your price though, act as if you are trying to find your car for sale - search craigslist and other places for your car - see what they are advertised for. If you want to sell yours quick, price it a couple hundred below the closest comparables. If you are not in a hurry - price it higher, but while KBB and such is a good way to get a general idea - checking the actual market will be a lot more useful than getting people's ideas of what your car is worth especially not knowing anything about it..

I agree that 9K is probably the highest you could reasonably expect anyone to pay.
Kelly Blue Book says for that car in "excellent" condision, private party price would be 8,000 and trade-in would be 6500.

If it is in fact in excellent condition, and what you describe it sounds like it, you might find someone who wants it bad enough to pay a bit more than list, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone willing to pay much more than 9K.

i would say maybe 7500 for a good 98, that seems pretty fair

mine was 6k with mods and 120k miles on it

yeah youre gonna have to find an rich hardcore initial D kid to pay $9000 its possible.

i wouldve bought an L or a crappier 2.5 but mine was pre-modded and nice looking for my swap i will do in a few years, but im in college so im lucky enough to have a car.

Comparing it to WRXs doesnt work because those WRXs that are 11K are beat, and were redlined off the lot and the owners are sick of filling it with oil every week.

If '02 WRXs that were comparable to what this guy's car is described as were really going for $11k, I would own at least one.
