Powdering your Nuts?
So ive been thinking about getting some new lug nuts.
Im thinking of a "rose red" or "sti pink" type color.
Ive found a few sets online, but they are $70+ AND do not come with locks (and finding locks in a matching color will be next to impossible). And ppl say the anodized colored ones start to fade/scratch and the metal starts to show under after using a lug wrench on them.
So i figured i would look into getting the ones i have now powder coated. If they have a color I like in stock, its $2 per lug. If they dont have the color, its $2 per luck + the cost of the powder. $40 sounds a lot better to me than $70+ while also taking the chance that I wont like the color of the aftermarket ones (comapred to the online pic) and possibly having the color come off anyways.
Only downside is turnover time is 2-3 days.
So, would powder coat stand up to a lug wrench? Or just chip and flake off like the others?
Another thing that some thought, would the powder coat greatly change the size of the lug nut (so the correct size lug wrench wouldnt fit on the lug nut anymore) or the lock?

With my experience and powdercoated metals.. They won't chip because they are baked onto the metal but after a long while everything starts to wear. I think they should be good for a long while.
if you hit powdercoated metal with a hammer, it will dent or bend but paint won't chip.
Yes, the powder coat will change the lugnut size, but it's not a problem. Instead of metric 19mm you can use standard...maybe 13/16?

I powder coated my lugs and after rotating my tires twice they started chipping really bad, anodizing is the way to go if you want to, but I had my lugs pink to match my jdm pink badges, looked great before they chipped

were they PC'd over chrome? this is what I was wondering, PC doesnt adhere well to chrome plating at all, and pretty much all lug nuts are chrome plated. If so then I wouldnt be surprised at all if it flaked off.

how long have you had the anodized ones? How many times have you taken the lugs on/off compared to the powder coated ones you had?
