Potential good deal on '05 STI

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/2140342474.html

Just a heads up if anybody's in the market. I in no way am affiliated with this, I just happened to check it out while I was looking for my own STI and thought I'd pass it along.

51k miles with some nice baseline mods done (like the FMIC cleanly installed). He's selling for $16k since the car overheats.

I talked to the kid last week, he's the original owner and took good care of the car, and his story seemed to check out in my book. Sadly doesn't seem to know much about cars mechanically, doesn't have time/money to figure his car out.

Provided the overheating never caused any motor damage, the issue is probably something stupid, so it could be a killer deal.

nice, looks clean!

Buuuuut....

50K+ miles with a short ram + FMIC and untuned??

I dont have to be a detective to guess that the overheating is probably not anything minor.

And he says he swapped the interior for a full 06 WRX interior, but those are not 06 WRX seats

Anyone here know his screen name here?

He just did the timing belt and it started over heating, bet the belt is off a tooth on one of the cams.

good point!

Also Ive seen it where the tensioner wasnt re-installed properly which meant the t-belt didnt put enough tension on the water pump pulley,
that one took us a while to diagnose

Not too familiar with what happens when you install a timing belt wrong on subarus because I never have but shouldnt it pop a cel and misfire codes immediately if that were the case?

I don't think that would do it, installing a timing belt on a suby is simple, the tech would of had his eyes closed doing it in order to screw it up. They must of not bleed the coolant system right or something. Let's hope a buyer does at least a leakdown test on it before buying.

I've never heard that one before, that would suck! I guess you wouldn't know till you pulled off the timing belt covers and run her and see that the water pump wasn't spinning lol.

i'm pretty sure they're tr seats.. but technically, a tr is still a wrx

but that's not really an issue.. i'm really really curious if it were that tbelt causing the overheating though
