Why was the movie so GREAT? I've never seen a movie that was posted here with such rave reviews... The story def isn't the reason that the film was great, and thats the main factor that makes me "love" a movie...

I was NOT a fan of the second transformers and I know people loved it due to the visuals alone... Was this one of those movies? Was it so "great" because the visuals were so stunning? From what I've seen in the previews, the visuals don't look that great... The blue people look really lame and fake, and that dragon thing it shows looks very fantasy-fake.

This film also looks very busy, just like Transformers 2, something I'm not found of... I hate when a director jams the screen full of CG and crazy visuals... it's too much and I prefer more concentrated visuals, like a focal point, like a single character that looks AMAZING and everything else looks normal, that way you can focus on the great visual and it stands out a lot more.

I dunno, from what I've seen it doesn't look so great, but the response in this thread really has me interested because Ive never seen a movie have such great reviews in BAIC.

its a visual mind**** since pretty much everything in the film is computer generated yet it seems VERY life like. The story is good enough for you not to walk out even though its 100% predictable. Also you have to see it at the theaters and preferably IMAX since it will probably be crap unless you have a 70inch+ screen at home.

Study enough literature and all plots carry the same elements and have a semi-predictable nature. To say a given film's plot is just a combination of movie x, movie y, and movie z is a ridiculous comparison. The same can be said for any title. Throw enough movies together and you can make a comparison. It's like saying Obama is just a combination of George Washington (President of the United States), Martin Luther King (African American), Mike Warfield (male), Ed Uksusman (married), and Nelson Mandela (Nobel Peace Prize laureate).

Your logic sucks.

I went into this movie with low expectations. I didn't really know much about it, but from the trailer it didn't look that great to me. Boy was I in for a surprise. The story was uninteresting at first, but I was sucked in when he started to learn the ways of the Navi clan. I actually CARED about the characters, which is a rare occurance for me.

The CG is excellent. Pretty much the entire movie is CG, but there were many times where I didn't even notice that it wasn't real. The acting was also very good and the characters were believable , which helped draw me into the story even more.

I'm not into action movies because most of them are as deep as a puddle with explosions coming out of stop signs, but Avatar had plenty of it, and it was actually GOOD! I actually choked up a couple times during the final battle because of how awesome it was. I hadn't felt like that since the first time I saw the car chase in "Death Proof".

Out of 10, I give this movie an 11. I was thoroughly impressed, and this movie is easily in my top 10 of all time. And I'm a huge film buff .

bottom line solid plot with a few corny things in it...

visuals

LIKE NOTHING ELSE AMAZING@(#@$(@

if this sets the bar or at least encourages other people to get this technology (granted they can't afford it) thatd be awesome.

I think the main this is the FOV POV is so close to how a real person sees, must have some amazing cameras.

I think the difference with most CGI is that most the time you are thinking "Ok, that looks real", but while watching Avatar, your thinking "OK.. IS this real???" The 3D obviously sucks you in and makes that a huge part as well. But you can tell they spent a lot of money and time making this what it is..

Don't go in expecting a plot like a great Scorsese or Tarantino flick.. but definitely the best Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Aliens, Star Wars type movie you will see.

I didn't think this movie was going to be good, but it actully turned out to be really good. The CGI and effects were really nice. It is a must see in 3D it just adds more realistic feel to the movie. Im quite surprised its rated PG-13 haha. There is a lot of swearing in it lol.

I just saw it today, and absolutely love it. I'm not the biggest fan of the generic-ish plot or its dialogue but whenever a movie gets me to think really hard about it on multiple levels, I tend to really really like it.
