Really enjoyed it. I've learned long ago to just enter with a clean mind and enjoy the ride.
It really exploits the motion capture of human emotions well. The blue characters, while cgi, really allowed the suspension of disbelief and the viewer could settle into believing that these were real beings. The facial motion capture essentially makes the cgi the actors makeup, not just a puppet.
As for the movie itself, great visuals, great unfolding story, blatant in the political references, great action, and wonderful ride. Story is basically just a dances with wolves + poccahantas + tarzan + starship trooper / aliens2 military gear with (totally unveiled) social commentary of USA's oil/iraq involvement. And the CGI is very well done and makes the environment possible where otherwise it would be impossible to achieve it with the same epic experience.
This is one to see in the theater... and one where 3D wasn't just a gimmick, it actually enhanced the presentation.

Just got back from a showing, simply amazing. Didn't get to see it in IMAX cuz it was sold out in the 3 IMAX theatres we called but might go try to catch another showing in IMAX

I think the most important thing in a movie is the ride, and Avatar delivers big on that.
ie, for a not really innovative story, it was presented in a very entertaining fashion.

100% Cheap thrills awesome entertainment. Not thought provoking, but 3D was really cool and the Mech things are always awesome! Its getting very hard to tell whats real and not real.
Breathtaking. No complaints. Comparisons to anything else is impossible.. there is no other movie like this. After awhile you are like.. how can this NOT be real?? Must see.

The plot has been seen many times before, but Avatar did it better. DEFINITELY the best movie I've seen in a long time.. I'll be buying it on Blu Ray the day it comes out.
