Northstar is great for a beginner. I found this great motel to stay at right in Kings Beach, I think, it was pretty cheap and pretty nice. I cant remember the name of it for the life of me though. Im gonna try to find it right now.

northstar's a pretty good hill for beginner and intermediates there's a lot to do there for others who don't ski as well. (the innertube thing is pretty cool)
as for staying, king's beach is prolly ur best bet.. truckee will be expensive, and northstar itself is usually pretty expensive.
i always stay at king's beach

Kings Beach to Northstar is usually less than 30 minutes door to door. Northstar parking lots get really busy during peak season, but it shouldn't be a problem at this time of year. I'm staying with some friends this weekend in the Dollar Hill area just outside of Tahoe City. We'll probably do a day at Northstar and a day at Squaw.

I agree with the others, Northstar is great for beginners, families etc. because of the terrain, and because they are friendly and helpful. However, for the intermediate to advanced, its kinda flat, lacks variety, and doesn't have much vertical so the steep runs are short.

hahaha
their staffing is cool, but not the smartest

a guy i met went up to northstar, fell, broke his collarbone (didn't know it at the time)
the paramedic guy at the scene said it was only bruised and shouldn't worry about it
so the guy didn't go to the doc for a week (rode the next day too)
ended up the bones broke straight in half and were over lappign each otehr

granted he should have gone to the doc anyways, sorta worried about who they are hiring

If you stay in kings beach, go to Lanza's for dinner. It's the best italian food on the lake. The resturant is right next to safeway, you can't miss it. Go the bar and tell Rick the bartender, Josh from San Diego sent you..

Have fun.
